Bestoffour

They can be dug up all winter if you can get thru the snow and frozen earth.
The winter freeze makes them taste sweeter..........

maybe I should send you seeds to do......

I'll try some if you tell me how to plant and how to cook when the time is right. Or you could come and cook for me. How far can you fly on that broom?

well, i got sick before i could expand the pond this year, but i got my little one cleaned out, and had a good time working on it. and i got to see all my fish 6 goldies and a pleco. all have made the summer fine, and must be lots of bugs for them, i haven't been able to feed them the whole 7 weeks and they grew some. only lost one this year, that's pretty good, although it was a nice multi color, bug-eyed fan tail. oh well, it wasn't as smart as the others.

i'm going to post pics later in the pond area.

why

Are you bringing the fish in for the winter? My sister hauled hers in her van from Ohio and they lived in the aquarium......About 15 years......Now they died and she bought more.......walmart. And these are getting huge.......i will take photos next time I am there to show you.

DId you know that the larger the container the fish are in, the bigger the fish will get.? Hers was almost a foot long......

She has them here in her kitchen.......Kids love it .

Here is what we did in the garden this weekend.

[Linked Image]

This picture is of the new flower bed Rod & I made this weekend around one of my bird feeders.
It is 14' x 2'. I have no idea about the depth--perhpas 4 to 6 inches

[Linked Image]

here is the beginning of my blackberry patch. There are only 3 triple crown plants. In the spring Rod is going to make me a trellis for them. On the side of the Berries by the shed, I have left room for a Clemantis. On the oposite side of the berries I hope the trellis will extend out so as to form an "L" shaped trellis--(and more room for more berries!)

The ground back here is real low--so I had to make a raised bed for the berries--like we did for the veggie garden.--
The pavers are so that the DH would not have extra trimming to do.

Great job Junigal,

That is how I put my flower beds in....Only wider and you can weed and mow easily....
Yes the berry bushes will get huge in time.

I love the wooden building and fence too.
Good luck

Juniegirl, that looks great. Is that a brick patio where you but the berries? What are you going to plant around the feeders?

Well it seems it might be time for my tomatoes to all come in. The Weatherman says tomorrow is the last nice day. I just picked a bunch and gave some to my neighbor. They are very happy to be receiving them. I planted some sweet million and some sunflowers for them in their little garden, but they never covered them when the frost hit, so those plants bit the dust. Tomorrow I will go out and pic all the ones I can and hope that I can enjoy them slowly.

Sheri: Thank you so much. I am real pleased also.
BTW it is wider than it looks--it is 2 feet wide.
about the brick where the berries are---
those are 2 rows of 18" x 18" pavers--5 in each row. Then a row of 12 x 12"
pavers--8 of them

I just put the pavers down so DH would not have extra trimming to do when he mows. I made it 4 feet wide so I would have room to get to the veggie garden and to pick berries as well. thumbup

about the flower bed around the feeder:
around the feeder i have 2 varigated liriope
then starting from the side closest to the shed--
I have 1 russian sage,
then 1 Sea Holly then at the other end--
I have 3 anemone and
finally I have an East Friesland Salvia on that end

it looks kinda empty now--but the plants are small plus I want to wait & add as I see plants that I really want to have (that is how the russian sage and the liriope got there)

My tomatoes are having a "rebirth" so to speak--I have lots & lots of green tomatoes--some of the purple cherokee are large too. But as not one of that variety lived yet this year to maturity--I may have to fry them up for me son in law lol (and ya never know--some may just accidently fall into my mouth as well. lol

barb: Thanks: BUT while the shed is ours---(12 x 20)--the nice fence is the neighbors--dh says no to a fence why rolz

yea-well lol a girl has to have some excuse--I promised the SIL that when he brought me green tomatoes I would fry them up just for him (& my DD of course)
about the sage---I just like how it looks--plus the oldest DD had to have some & the thought kinda 'took"

ya know, Barb--I really cannot answer that---I just bought a pot of the sage saturday--(got it at Lowes for $1.00)
but I have a plan--I intend to put out those cheap tomato cages around the flowers in the spring before they get too tall--then I will train them up inside the cages so they will not "bush" so much.--

sounds like it will work--gonna try anyway-- lol thumbup

Know what ?
I did that and the tomatoes got so heavy when it rained they tumbled over.
If you use the tomato cages, You better stake them.. We plant that trick this time......

I get zillions of leaves on mine.

Oh, noo Barb--for my tomatoes I have some heavy duty home-made L-shaped cages. My DH made/welded them out of an old cattle gate for me. his own design even.

I buy the cheap tomatoe cages for the likes of my cherry tomatoe plant that i keep on the deck of my house and for the flowers. (right now I have one over the 3-in-1 butterfly bush I planted this week-end as well)

--one has to keep the DH from mowing down the tiny new bush by accident ya know--.

FYI: if you buy a 3-in-1 Butterfly bush you actually get 3 very small plants---I feel stupid for not realizing that before. rolz

That's not fair. I bought a 5-in-1 apple tree. It has five different branches grafted on the same base. I'd send in a complaint to where you bought it from.

today I raked some pine needles and put them on my neighbors day lily bed we made her. It keeps down the weeds and where I bought the day lilies they had them on thiers so looked like a good idea. Also started some Autumn Joy sedum with cuttings. Not much but, it was good to get outside and do something lol

I just stick them in the ground and a new plant starts. learned that on another thread in here. I tried a few a couple weeks ago and they have already rooted. Easy way to get more sedum.

I digged out (another :) ) piece of lawn and made a little rockgarden. I sowed so much rockery plants that wouldn't look good in an other part of the garden (cause i kind of like big plants...:D )
