I had some overgrown cukes that I just kinda threw into a bucket and left for a while in my greenhouse. In September I decided it was about time I cut them open and collect a few seeds to dry and save for planting next spring. Lo and behold when I cut them open, lookie at what I found! Baby cuke plants starting INSIDE the fruit! I had no idea they did this!

I was so excited, I planted them in a container to see what would happen. Went away on vaca and came home late Sept. In only one month, this is what they looked like!

I say THIS is the way to start cuke plants from now on. I just hope they fruit before frost! If not there's the greenhouse!

That is cool documentation. If you think about fruiting plants in nature, the seedlings often are fed by the parent fruit as it decomposes. We just don't often get a chance to see it.
