I did a trade with someone last year for pipevine& cranberry hibiscus. It seems neither plant turned out to be what I traded for.so does anyone reqignize this?It does seem to at least grow as a vine& has flowered.Though I don't know what it is. don't seem to smell.I winter sowed them.so its been growing since Feb.It does seem to bloom within a week of the bud showing.A hummingbird checked it out too,but just seemed attracted to the color maybe& just went back up above to the feeder.

yes, the flower looks like a clematis...i don't think the leaves are right for it, tho. well, i've never seen clematis leaves that look like that, anyhoo. and, if this was grown from seed, it would not have bloomed the first year if it was a clematis.

Njoynit, could you possibly get a picture of the flower bud before it opens and a closer shot of the foliage?? Joclyn, I thought of that too, but since it was sown in Feb and it is in Texas, I thought well, maybe .................

mel, i bought a clematis last year - very small and was probably just a two year old...it grew a bit and, of course, died back for the winter. grew again this year - has not bloomed yet.
yes, you've got better conditions - still, i think clems need a few years growth before they will bloom. i could be wrong on that tho.
the site i used to use for reference for clems is now a pay site, so i can't check this...it really does look like a clem tho (except for the leaves)!

I wouldn't think it'd be a clemtris.I've not been able to grow those from seed.the stem is hairy.I'll have to wait for another bloom to get a seed pod pic.But can describe it.It looked like a purple moonvine pod after flowering only smaller.I tried a search for 'red flowering vine' and did not match anemone clemtris though the flower was similar though was pink& larger. The seed was tan.Sorry that is all remembered.I sowed all 35 seed Feb 12th.it sprouted in june. The flower last one day only. I've took 3 shots& we will have another bud soon as one is starting to develope. Bud developeing closer shot of leaf flower gone

Its a musk mallow..possible pacific pink.surprised it took so long for it to bloom.least it was still something 'new ' for me to grow.I it IS similair to a yellow one that I grew before, though the flower was larger.sis says cold meds are impairing me.I just wish they'd hurry up and HEAL me.
