Hi, I read how to sprout an avocado seed and it has started growing roots and this morning we discovered that a stalk has grown out the top. What do I do now?

Thanks, Cindy

You can pot it up for growing.I've sprouted one, though seemed to take a bit.But its going good now.I plan to GH mine and then plant it out in the spring,by useing a larger pot and sinking pot in ground.Mines in a qt nursery pot& my stem is about 8 inches. They are not frost or freeze tolerant, but the mexican type are the cold hardiest(if you crush the leaves and they smell like licorice you have a mexican type, the other 2 don't have that smell& one of the others tastes more watery, guatamalton<spelled wrong.)they take 10-15 years to fruit from seed, which is why they are generally purchased for fruit production as grafted plants.Being your FL(But don't know your city,so don't know your zone)if its planted out,it may return from roots as long as ground not below 27 or a nasty freeze visits you.mine will fruit when I turn 50.If I don't kill it durring that time.mine grows in full sun& I've not had any leaf burn.

Thanks njoynit for the information. I am located about an hour north of Tampa so it's pretty warm here at the moment. Thiarella
