Here in Canada, Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday in October. This year it will be on the 8th.

I still do the turkey with all the trimmings and a warm dessert of some kind, last year it was pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin coffeecake.

How do you celebrate?

In the US our Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. We always have turkey and all the trimmings at my parents along with pumpkin pie and my mom always makes some other kind of pie too. She changes that one up every year.

We do Turkey, (baked in the oven), in our house too. Unless my DD has the holiday--then her DH deep fries an injected Turkey outside. Yum!!

My whole family celebrates it together. My mom & dad, my sister & brother, their children & their families--Us and our DD's & their spouses--AND my MIL. Then if my BIL & his family are home (from Ohio) they are included too. The house is FULL--but it is nice.

We each take turns hosting the holiday. The person whose house it is at makes the meat & potatoes & gravy. Everyone else brings a side dish AND a dessert. it works well. and we have a variety of foods.

Sounds like fun Carol, like when I was younger.

Now I usually go with one or the other of my sons and their extended family.
This year my sister talked me into coming to visit her in IN for a few days.
They are elderly, and we will go out for dinner, which is OK with me (It's just more fun with my kids and grandchildren!)

Carol's Thanksgiving sounds like the Thanksgivings of my childhood.

When I got older and started living away from family, I began inviting outsiders to share Thanksgiving with us. College students, singles with no where to go, foreigner's who didn't know about the holiday. That was always fun.

The last few years I just have sent Maxi to his dad's where I know he will have lots of fun with the extended family and I am alone on the holidays.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Merme: That is very nice of you to do that for Maxi; I wish you lived close to me, I would invite4 you to come to my house for the holidays.

FYI: It sounds like this year we may begin breaking up for Thanksgiving.
I do hope not---but things do change.......... why

Afgrey used to have a turkey hotline thread that was loads of fun. Dunno if she'll do one this year.... but I'll be here with whoever else can log on also.

I've been thinking of getting my oven fixed and perhaps buying a small turkey breast just so we can have some of the "leftovers" around....

I can't resist doing the turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, Home made Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream, cranberries, stuffing and corn (although not on the cob anymore. The dentures won't handle it lol.)

With most of my kitchen packed up it will be a little turkey roast and small portions of everything else but it will still all be there. I love the holidays to much to miss them.

I'll invite Ellie over to join me if she doesn't have plans somewhere else instead. My stairs are way to much for her but she might be able to do it just once.

yep--having "leftovers' around is good. that is the one drawback of having a family get-together,--if you are not the one hosting the meal that is.

But a turkey breast--(or even a small chicken) some potatoes or whatever sounds good and perhpas a dessert of sorts and it would all be good.

I may end up doing that myself. I hate h not having leftovers the next day.

THAT and making turkey carcas soup is my favorite thing to do after a holiday. YUM !!
