This was called a Shamrock when I bought it.
Is this what is called an Oxallis (sp)???

Anyway here is some pictures of it. It was just a little thing this spring!!
It bloomed profusely!!! Constantly, for weeks!!!! Then I thought it's blooming season was over with.
But now it is starting to bloom again!! I'm so happy! clap
Yes, I know, I have to get it repotted!!! grin
I took one picture, of one of the two really big leaves, on my hand so you could see how big they are!!!!!! Sure different than the little green shamrocks you find in the grass!!!! lol lol

Yes, you have a wonderful oxalis! What color are/were the flowers? Here is a site with lots of oxalis pics. Yours is possibly a form of Oxalis purpurea.

Thank you!

Margaret, the flowers are a pale lavendar. They've just opened in the sunshine. I will try to get a good picture of them.

Should the stems be that THIN??!! They must be very strong, anyway, to hold up those big leaves!!

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

when you repot it, you will discover it is more than 2 plants. they are sort of like bulblets and each one will produce several leaves, so you have more than 2. they are great plants, i love mine!!!

Thanks!!! I only knew I had two separate plants in the pot. I didn't know I would have a lot more because of bulblets!!!!!

That was going to be my next questions...about collecting seeds from the flowers. So...I don't do that, right? It's got baby bulbs!!! Cool!!!!

Now what about the thin stems...even though they must be strong!
When I repot should I set them deeper in the dirt??

No, but thank you Jiffy for offering!!! Would you like some of mine? and what would I send, the bulblets??

lol I figured the green, even if big, would still be like what's in the
grass. But this Purple, is totally awsome!!! I love it!!

Jiffy, I have SOOOOOOOOOOOO many plants you would wonder how I can squeeze them into this apartment!!! grin

That is a happy looking oxalis! They are supposed to have thin stems like that, so I wouldn't change the depth of the bulb for fear of upsetting it. when you do transplant you will get many more bulbets coming up.
Did you know that you can eat it(stems and leaves)? It is tangy (sweet and sour). You just can't survive off it because it has traces of oxalic acid (also found in spinach) which if you ate a lot (a few plants worth) would cause poisoning. My husband loves to snack on it.

It appears that your plant is in full bloom now. As the bloom count falls off, the plant will take a rest. Most of the stems will dry and fall off. Keep it lightly watered when its dormant as it will suddenly take off and grow stems. Mine started dying back at the end of August.

Thank you herbalyn. I'll try to remember to water it less when it ever starts through that phase. Right now, after it started blooming again it is going great guns!!

All of you have given me so much help!! I thank you all. I love my plant!!
I love hearing about all of yours. It will help me to understand mine...which I've had no problem with yet. I guess it's dormant stage was went it finally quit blooming for just a few weeks. But now it's blooming fine again!

I thought it was like a woman who gives birth alot!!!! lol It had bloomed so much, having soooo many flowers, it exhausted it'self, and had to rest for a bit! grin

OK JIFFYMOUSE.......I changed my mind!!!! I will gladly accept some bulbs for a green one. And I will send you some bulbs of my purple. OK? They'd be a pretty contrast side by side.

ok, as promised, here are mine. not as good as other years, they've been seriously neglected... and are amongst the weeds...

the pot behind the green one is a 4" pot, just for size reference, and that is a willy hat in the corner that you see part of.

there's lots more purple, but it just isn't doing well this year.
