Has anyone grown rose of sharon from seed? I have grown a few and the plants have grown well, some are pretty big and strong. When can I expect them to flower?

Hi Mrs W,,,,
If you grew them this spring ~ they are still young. My hope for you is that that survive your NY winter and will come back in the spring at which time they should begin blooming ,, In the spring give them a good boost of fertilizer to give them a jump start..

IF you have had them for over a year I would certainly give it a good boost of fertilizer to encouage it to bloom ~ Preferable a fertilizer with 3 #'s and make sure the middle # is a higher # than the other two which tells you it is going to reallly encourage blooms!! thumbup

Thanks for the reply! Most are from this year and some are over a foot tall. I have 2 which came back after ( a very cold) winter and look great, but no flowers. I will try fertilizing them, but should I do so now or wait til the spring?

I would give it a 20-20-20--> miracle grow or something for trees that doesn't encourage blooms right now but it makes it ( roots)stronger for the winter ,as it will be getting cold soon for you there,, Then in the spring give it a really good boost!! thumbup flwr
