What colour are the iris blooms? If they are standard yellow (Iris pseudacorus) or purple( Iris laevigata) they will grow in regular garden soil that is kept damp. If they aren't and you want to use aquatic soil you can get it at Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart. The baby tabs are I think pond tabs and they are fertilizer??? If so you can get it at Walmart too. Some people use all clay kitty litter in place of aquatic soil. I personally don't use aquatic soil for any of my plants, bogs or ponds. Good old clay dirt works just as well.

The iris can go in the water, they will grow in or out of the pond but they do like moist soil.

With pond plants there are different types just as with regular garden plants. You have submersible, floaters and marginals. Iris are marginals, water hyacinths are floaters and lotus are submersible.
