This was called a Shamrock when I bought it. Is this what is called an Oxallis (sp)???
Anyway here is some pictures of it. It was just a little thing this spring!! It bloomed profusely!!! Constantly, for weeks!!!! Then I thought it's blooming season was over with. But now it is starting to bloom again!! I'm so happy! Yes, I know, I have to get it repotted!!! I took one picture, of one of the two really big leaves, on my hand so you could see how big they are!!!!!! Sure different than the little green shamrocks you find in the grass!!!!
Oh, I love this plant! You must be so pleased with it! Those huge, richly colored leaves in a fascinating shape and such dainty flowers... wow.
Merme
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
when you repot it, you will discover it is more than 2 plants. they are sort of like bulblets and each one will produce several leaves, so you have more than 2. they are great plants, i love mine!!!
That is a happy looking oxalis! They are supposed to have thin stems like that, so I wouldn't change the depth of the bulb for fear of upsetting it. when you do transplant you will get many more bulbets coming up. Did you know that you can eat it(stems and leaves)? It is tangy (sweet and sour). You just can't survive off it because it has traces of oxalic acid (also found in spinach) which if you ate a lot (a few plants worth) would cause poisoning. My husband loves to snack on it.
It appears that your plant is in full bloom now. As the bloom count falls off, the plant will take a rest. Most of the stems will dry and fall off. Keep it lightly watered when its dormant as it will suddenly take off and grow stems. Mine started dying back at the end of August.
Thank you herbalyn. I'll try to remember to water it less when it ever starts through that phase. Right now, after it started blooming again it is going great guns!!
actually, the green isn't like what is in the grass. imagine your purple with green instead. i'll try to remember to take a pic and show you. and dodge has lots too!!!
Don't throw them out .....They go on benders of come and goes....Purple will act like dead and come back so beautiful......I have purple , green, a perennial one blooms pink in zone 5 or 6.. And I love them all. The purple is Wine something the name. my favorite.
All of you have given me so much help!! I thank you all. I love my plant!! I love hearing about all of yours. It will help me to understand mine...which I've had no problem with yet. I guess it's dormant stage was went it finally quit blooming for just a few weeks. But now it's blooming fine again!
I thought it was like a woman who gives birth alot!!!! It had bloomed so much, having soooo many flowers, it exhausted it'self, and had to rest for a bit!
OK JIFFYMOUSE.......I changed my mind!!!! I will gladly accept some bulbs for a green one. And I will send you some bulbs of my purple. OK? They'd be a pretty contrast side by side.
Jiffy sent me a bunch of the purple ones, early last spring, but to be honest, i haven't found the time/place yet to plant them  Once fall starts, I'll plant
The photos of mine are already on here, so I guess she is talking to you Jiff! I'd like to see a picture of yours also, Jiffy.
Dodge, if you have the one that blooms Pink I'd like to see a pic of it too.
Shirley ............. Here is the Crasspi's Oxalis......which is a Perennial.. leave it outside all winted.....It spreads so neatly..This is by my Carriage house.
Oh your purple one is the same thing I have.It is called Wine something.
