When I was a child, my maternal grandmother, Mildred Mae Moore (1898-1981) taught all of us kids how to fold an 8 1/2 x 10 in. piece of paper to make a single cut and end up with a perfect 5 point star. The wtory she told us was about Betsy Ross making the star this way to show Congress how easy it would be to make the stars for the flag.

So, here is a link to a US history site to show you how to make the Betsy Ross 5-point Star with a single cut just like G'ma Moore showed us kids.

US History. Org Besty Ross 5-Point Star

With Christmas right around the corner, this is nice to know!

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Merme, isn't it wonderful to be able to pass stories and info down through the generations. Cool link.

I've been making those perfect one-cut-only stars since I was a kid. Today I showed Maxi's friends how to do it and they ran home with big, perfect stars to hang up in their rooms that they had made themselves. It IS cool.

I meant to tell you in my original post that although the site this link goes to tells you to use only 8 1/2 x 10 paper (not 8 1/2 x 11), my G'ma showed us how to do it with square paper. It doesn't matter how big or small the square is, the star will still be made with one cut. This gives you the option of making stars in many sizes.
