With fall approaching I did something this year I should've done last year.

I ordered a pond net for my pond. thumbup

teachIf you have trees with leaves that can blow in your pond do yourself a huge favor and buy one!

Leaves don't decompse very well in a pond and when we drained out the old one there were tons of leaves still in it from the previous fall!

I can't wait to get that net. It will save me tons of hassle this year. Last year I used a pond net and scooped the leaves out when I saw them but so many sunk before I even got them.

I also ordered a pond thermometer and special fish food for fall and spring feeding. Plus I got 2 pond baskets for plants for next spring. thumbup

glad to hear of your pond..
Just one word of caution.....My friend spent all summer building 2 ponds and put fish and flowers into it .....Yesterday her large dog got into the larges one and demolished lots of it.. I suppose it as chasing the fish???????
Ripped plants out and even the filters...
She said it was a well behaved dog..

Hope you dont have a dog.

Nope, no dog....that's terrible that her pond was all ripped up like that. I guess the dog doesn't know any better though---dogs like to swim.

My neighbors tree is humungous...I mean HUGE and as pretty as it is--ALL of the leaves like to blow in my yard.... rspb

yikes

Guess you will have to get a fishing net to take leaves out.
However you will love the pond.My sis has one in Ohio , before she moved to Pa.
It was adorable.

Good luck

Oh, I already have the pond....have had one for years....this is the first year I was smart enough to order a pond net to cover the whole entire pond to stop leaves from getting in there. thumbup

Well in the winter you need to leave an opening in theh ice for the gases that are in the water to escape from.

I never really thought about composting much before, maybe I should do that. lol

my lab is a well behaved dog but I'm sure if I had a pond he'd be right in the middle of it. They love water. Your friend may have to fence in the pond if they rebuild.

i also will be netting for the first time-i worked too hard to fight the leaves again for another year. here is my mom's suggestion and what she does.....don't lay the netting right on top of the ground, if you do that, the frogs can't get in and out.....somehow she stakes them so that stuff can come and go around the edges, but leaves can't get in. i thought this was a good idea and wondered why none of the catalogs ever said this! grin

I know the retrievers would dive in and stay..
Terrier dogs are good snake catchers, and I assume they would be on the way in to.

I didn't hear from the friend today.......Maybe the dog is on the way to the kennel.. shock
Kidding she said it is well behaved......I think put it on a leach if your going inside.

oh yes, she wants them to get in and out of the pond! also does not want them to be trapped by the netting.

My 3 frogs all hopped away already. We had a strange cold spell a few weeks ago, it was only barely 60 for 3-4 days in a row...I think they thought it was time for them to hop away and bury themselves in preperation for winter. lol

I'd stake mine up but around here frogs usually are gone at least by the end of October. tears
