I know compost should be PUT in the garden, but tonight I was transplanting some plants that were crowded - figured it's going to be cool/rainy tomorrow, so less transplant shock. When I dug up some plants there was white ash in the dirt under the foilage - kinda like what my compost pile looks like when it's 'cooking'. Is this okay? My plants are healthy.

Welcome to homemade potash. You don't need much per square foot but it is a good thing.
