I recently bumped into an old friend who is a master gardener. She was saying that she hasn't seen any monarchs in her yard this year - none! Well... I guess I must have all of hers, because I have had lots of these lovelies this year and am thrilled!
What ever happened to Viceroy butterflies? We used to get lots of monarchs and viceroys when we were kids, and had some difficulty telling them apart!

We had a ton of monarhs on the tithonia here at work this year. I wondered where the viceroys went to also.
