Where I am moving there is a Bing Cherry Tree that has been allowed to grow unchecked. It is very tall with the first branch starting over my head. Needless to say the only ones who benefit from the cherries are the birds. Is there anything I can do with this tree? Other than use it for shade?

Next year try covering your Bing Cherry with a 14ft. x 14ft. Protective Netting. The netting is supposed to protect the cherries from birds; they are also good for other fruit trees, garden or grapes & berries.

This is going to sound like a dumb questions. How do you get the net over the tree? We are talking really tall here.

Hi Tammy,

I have dwarf chery trees; so, no need to use poles. But I think balloons attached to the netting will work as well for tall cherry tree...be sure you secure the netting with twines to guide it over the tree, then pull the twines to bring the netting down.

Here's the netting instructions.

For fruit trees:

* wrap around or drape over trees.
*for tall trees: use pole to lift over tree-tops.
*gather netting at trunk and secure with twist ties.
* roll back edge of netting for easy harvesting.

For gardens:

*drape over garden and secure with stakes or weigh down corners with heavy objects.
* to protect seeds, seedlings and upright plants, elevate netting 6 inches or more above ground using stakes, wire, etc.

for grapes and berries:

*wrap around or drape over grapevines or berry sushes.
* lift netting for easy harvesting.
