This morning something seemed "not right" and Saltflower didn't eat last night or use his litterbox.
I ran to the vet this morning, and he was given fluids, an anti-gas medication and a shot to get his guts moving, as the vet put it.
He is no longer allowed banana or apple, not fresh or dried, as these irritate the stomach, which leads to not eating, which leads to fatal blockages.
He'll be on meds for a few days.
The vet says it's gas and a slight blockage.
I had read that a rabbit must be taken to a vet IMMEDIATELY and that's why I ran at the crack of dawn.
Whew !

Thanks, Wrennie !
He ate a little timothy hay after I syringed the prescription hay stuff in his mouth. Drank some water, and is resting now.
He has to have this weird liquid hay given by syringe for a few days, plus the meds.

Thanks for asking. He still is not eating at all, and I'm syringing the liquid hay down him.

Thanks ! He is now eating a little and hopping in a cheerful way ! I'm still syringing the liquid hay stuff and giving him his meds.
The most crucial thing about a rabbit's health is POOPING, believe it or not.
Their gut has to be constantly moving, like a horse's.
He's pooping better now.
Sorry to be gross but it's The Critter Corner, right?
Thank you for asking, all of you !

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Thanks all !
This morning he's eating almost normally and passing plenty of poop which is CRUCIAL.
Who'd ever think I'd be so happy to see a mound of poop and to be saying thank you prayers about poop ! LOL !
I woke up to hear him chewing ! I jumped out of bed and could hardly believe my eyes !

would your vet give you a bag of fluids that you could give him yourself, or would that help bunnies? mom has a several cats that she gives fluids to that are having problems.

i hope saltflower (cute name) keeps doing better! :ding:

Deborah, remeber to compost that poop. Rabbit manure is the RICHEST natural fertilizer known. I had a pumpkin seed sprout and grow in Two Beans composted bedding and poop. The leaves on the vine were 2-3 feet ACROSS! NO pumpkins but the drought killed the vine early on.

Thanks, Wendy. My niece, Kelsey, made up the name when she was little. It's because my black cat is named Pepperlily.
I'm giving careful and slow syringes of room temperature water orally. He's drinking but needs to drink more.
He's doing very well now, thank God.
Thorny, I'm a container gardener in a rental house, so I can't compost. I did learn the hard way not to empty the litterbox in ivy-the peep and/or poop killed it even though I hosed it thoroughly. Now I empty into a trash can that is just for the litterbox.
