Hello and good afternoon all! Would anyone have any water hycinth's that they would share with me?I am going to start a small pond next summer and never did one before so really excited about getting one started?Hope to hear from someone soon?You all have a good and safe weekend bye for now Rita

If I had any, I sure would share. Now might not be the best time for shipping, a lot of us are experiencing high heat which will pretty much rot anything shipped.

Isn't getting a new pond going fun? I did my first one this spring and it was a lot of fun.

gosh! thank you for answering my post and I heard from others that it is not a good time to ship them the best I heard was sometime in Feb when they grow dormant? I never care for water hycinth's before so did not know so guess will have to wait till then to try to get some?Have a good day and remember keep those hands of yours dirty!

Would you be keeping them inside in an aquarium or something? In Ohio or any cold climate they wouldn't survive thru the winter. They would make it thru a warm winter area though.

If you are making a pond next year it would probably be best to ask again in the spring when it's not too hot to ship and it's closer to the time that you'd need some--that way you wouldn't have to try to keep them alive inside thru the cold weather.

Can I bring the water hyacinths inside in the winter? Can I use a storage tub w/water and a small pump? Can they stay in the basement? Or do they need light? My next option is an empty office at work ;-) I would like to save them. My dh bought some on ebay for .50 cents each! Much better deal than the 3.99 ea I paid at the nursery..sigh.

I'm no expert but I'd say that if you brought them inside and gave them lots of light they might just pull thru.

I'm going to put some of mine in my fish tank and keep the light on most of the day. Can't hurt to try.

Hey guys water hyacinths and water lettuce are hard to keep alive in the house. I have had luck with them with the hot grow lights they need lots and lots of light. I still lost 3/4 of them by the time spring came around because they rot.

Ah Donna, I figured it was pretty hard to keep them alive. I guess I'll try with a few in my fish tank and if they rot I'll just buy more next year.

i had one make it outside all winter, then rot right at the beginning of spring :mad:

so, i bought water lettuce, but never found the hyacinth this year. will go for it next year!

I love water hyacinths. But so do the raccoons around here. They've fished them out and eaten them every time I've put them in the pond. And from my neighbors ponds too.

wow! i didn't know they would do that. we have a few coons here, but i've never seen one in my yard, and they never got my hyacinth!

I live in South Texas and they are quite invasive here Remenber me in the spring and I can send you some. They are wild here and I have them in my own pond. Betty
