Here is a link to the Garden Helper's archive concerning ergonomically designed tools to the hands. I have not moved the photos in my photobucket account so the links should still take you to the right pictures.

Ergonomically Designed Tools For The Hands

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I love tools with ergonomically correct or even just big thick handles. My grip just isnt what it used to be, and the skinny handles make keeping a grip on them tough. Cramps my hands right up.

I THINK It may have been Mike57 and at least one other gardener I've spoken with here who had padded their tools themselves rather than going to the extra expense of buying the bigger ones. I think someone mentioned wrapping foam rubber and someone else used some kind of tubing but I wasn't sure how that one worked.

I gyess anyone with any kind of arthritic condition or even carpal tunnel could benefit from the wider handles, especially if they are designed to not add too much extra weight to the tool. I can't use heavy tools.

There is an insulation tubing sold for putting around copper pipes (plumbing section of your hardware store) It can be easily cut, is light, and comes with different diameter inner holes. That may be the tubing the 'someone' used.
