What a pretty color! We don't have any of those here, even though we are not that far from you. Only the grey ones. And it's interesting, because my parents on the other side of the Hudson River have more black ones than the grey we have here.

I love that auburn color!

I have a couple of the black, bunches of grey, red and flying. Lynne do you have many pine trees around you? Reds love pine nuts.(are they called nuts?? The seeds in the pinecones.)

Yep - we have a few very large pine trees here.

I'd love to see a flying squirrel too - have you seen them fly? What fun!

Barely. They're nocturnal so i see them leap into the darkness, but dont really get to observe them flying.

I had two pet flying squirrels as a boy in Chattanooga, TN. They would curl up and sleep in my shirt pocket all day and then run on the treadmill all night. I also had a pet Gray Squirrel. As a teenager, I had a mated pair of pet Fox Squirrels that were real sweethearts to me (and each other). These days I go to Centennial Park here in downtown Nashville, TN, where the squirrels are SO tame that they will come and sit on your lap and eat peanuts from your hand.

It's a secret. I always wear a cologne made from the musk glands of all the furred animals of the world. It is called, "Eau De Mammale".

The squirrels eat my birdseed all the time. I get it really cheap and LOVE squirrels, too, so I don't mind at all. This picture of a squirrel is in a city park here in Nashville. I have two squirrels in my yard, Nick, and Nick's Friend. They are not as tame but still fairly friendly.

Did you see the program where a wire was strung and then tin cans hung on wires from that wire and the bird seed put in the cans to give the squirrels something to work at while they were getting feed. I thought it was a great idea.

I slow down for elephants and Great Blue Whales crossing the road.

Not because I afraid of hitting them, I just have to take advantage of the INCREDIBLE photo opportunity! zoink

Raccoons have an insatiable curiosity. To get one to eat out of your hand, try making a tube out of your hand and hiding a goody like a grape or sugar cube in the tube. If you get close to the coon show him the tube. He will turn his head like he doesn't care WHAT you have while at the same time, reaching into the tube you form, with HIS hand, and taking the treat you have hidden. It works EVERY time if you have a tame enough and friendly enough coon to allow you to get close.

Aren't alot of coon carrying distemper due to there close proximity to us? Or am I completely out of my gourd? Seems like I heard that a while back. But I could be wrong. It happens a lot.

we have trouble with rabid raccoons around here tk. They bite dogs and cats and then the owners have to get the shots. We hear this a bunch where I work.
