Nothing like a flood to wash away all your hard work. We have had about 23 inches of rain in the last couple of weeks. Last week we had about 7" in one night. Woke up to hear splashing in the basement, kitty was walking around. Had about 8" of water in my basement. Went out side and water was almost to my door. It was about 5:00 AM. Called my next door neighbor to have her check her house, they had 2-1/2 feet in their basement as they had a door that walked into the basement from the outside. :(
All the mulch I laid in the yard is washed away. The rhododendron I was trying to revive, just gave up. It's a goner.
There is a small run off creek at the back of my yard that is part of the storm run off system for the village, unfortunately the culvert that it ran into became clogged and backed up for blocks. Houses a block a way from me weren't as lucky, they had to wade thru waist high water to get out of their homes. Just thankful I work for a construction company. Two guys came over with generators and water pumps and drained both mine and my neighbors basement (we both work for the same company). We were very lucky.

The flood picture is a bit pixilated, sorry. The water level at the first pine tree is about 3-1/2 feet. It was about 5' of water in the far back. The dog fencing was well under water.
But the basement is dry, debris is thrown out and luckily no damage to the furnace, water heater, or washer and dryer, they were all elevated enough to stay dry. Thank goodness.
