A squirrel planted peanuts in my planter at work. he came and dug up most of the ones that sprouted. This one he seems to have missed. I wonder if I can transplant it successfully?? Its in a shallow windowbox so I dont know how well it will do there or if it will choke out all of my flowers.

I think I can. The window box isnt very big, wide or deep. I need more potting soil first. Then I'll just replant that end of the w box. why I guess its worth a try.

You can get peanut seeds from any unroasted peanuts or squirrel food. And transplant fast from any planter. They make off shoots that go under ground to grow the peanut.

My neighborhood squirrel planted it for me. Just be sure you get raw peanuts. I can send you some if you want??

So I dug up the peanut plant {lordy thats a long root!} and put it in a big pot of its own at home. We'll see if I get a crop off of it.

It doesn't seem to like being moved very much.

Wrennie - that is so exciting! Can't wait to see it grow more - I've never seen a peanut grow around here - congrats to you!

What fun ! Can you put a basket or something over it that the squirrels can't move?

So far so good. Squirrels and chipmunks have left it alone. Chicken wire would work for the squirrels but not the chippys.I'll have to sprinkle baby powder on top of the soil if I see any evidence of critter digging.

The chipmunks dont like the smell or feel or something and wont dig through it into the potting soil. I dont think the squirrels will either.

Wouldn't it be a hoot to roast your own peanuts, even if you get only a couple of them?
