Anymore folks from the Godforsaken Northeast out there? Our weather has been boil'em or freeze'em this summer! When I'm out there tilling (with a small axe!), my eyes burn from the sweat dripping. We had low 50 nites and 60 degree, damp, bone chillin' daze! How the heck am I going to grow veggies in this weather? So far, I've had super advice on my beginning organix. kat 2007

Our weather is so nutty. We received all of our rain this week in one lump sum about 10 inches in 3 days......Hows that strike you?
I go out to garden first thing in the morning before ole man sun hits us the hardest.....
Mow lawn in sun cause I got a zero turn that is so much fun.......

Only crop that is good is my tomatoes.................Onions bad.
cukes havent showed up yet.. ha h a
I think I have a white pumpkin.

Organic.ha ha try if you might.

Hey, Dodge!!! Guess you're in the same boat weatherwize--what d'ya mean "organic. haha try if u mite?"
My housemate loathes chemicals. She uses white vinegar to clean~yuck!! No ammonia here (hafta use it when she's not home). I'm composting directly into the soil. Any suggestions? I'm trying to prepare. Wrennie, et als., suggested rye or crown vetch. I have 3' x 36' to plant. Have no idea how much seed needed or how to plant (1 seed; scatter?). I really need help here, and am afraid to make costly mistakes. I'm tilling with a small axe, for godssake! Helllp! kat 2007

why

Thought you was joking....
I arent into organic......However I live on a farm and use the well Rotted manure .. It just rots itself ...........Under the hay or whatever is fed.

Rye is good so is winter wheat....But you must turn them under in the spring before they get over 6 inches.
Do you have a rototiller handy?
A neighbor with one?
Actually in the flower beds I use a shovel to take off the top soil , then add the rotten manura....

My best fertilizer.

Type in Composing in your search box and it should get you ideas.. That is what the computer is for.

barb

Ps I use vinegar for glass and windows......Bleach anywhere..Kill lotza germs.

Hi,
Just joined yesterday, and am from NH. Our weather has been crazy this summer. This past week like to have froze to death. Was getting near frost stage. Our tomatoes are doing good, but cukes are very slow. Harvested 2 small ones. Thought they weren't getting enough sun, but may be just is not the year for cukes.

Today has turned back to the muggy weather and who knows what is next. LOL

Big Welcome to Ladyslipper,

If the shoe fits , wear it ....ha ha
Had to get that one in......We had naughty weather in Penna......first no rain, now too much rain, no cukes, too much tomatoes.....

But whatever, we do lots on here, just holler and we come running.
welcome.

Thanks for the welcoome Dodge.I find there is lots of interesting stuff on here. Hope to visit often this winter! Our winters are long and cold. I tend to quilt in the winter and dream about what my gardens will do come summer. May be I will get some good ideas of what to do and not to do LOL

Our winters are no treats either.......Long like yours.
I try to sew quilts, but not by hand......Wish I was good at that. DOnt have a loom either......One huge old one in the attic and I know not how to use one.

I do sew on the machines clothes crafts and household stuff......
Crochet, tried to knit.. Learnt once and forgot again.. ha ha

i think we have quilters on here.

I started seed swappin on these places, and found lots of friends.

I don't quilt by hand. do most of it with a the sewing machine. I took some classes and got hooked on it.

My gardening has been trial and error! I have photos of my first attempts and what a laugh.
