Hello Everyone. I hope you all are having a good day. I'm new to the forum and very interested in learning about plants and getting new ideas. I've recently just started getting into plants and some flowers. I'm not one that has a green thumb, but I'm sure trying. My 6 year old son loves plants as well and wants to learn more. I went on a search and found this website and here I am.
I'm looking forward to talking with you.

Have a great day!!

Hi and welcome !
What kind of gardening will you be doing?
I'll bet your little boy would enjoy growing veggies-radishes and lettuce, maybe peas?
These are all cool weather plants. It's not too late to plant something fun and educational for him now.
Have a good time and ask anything !

Thank You all for the warm welcome.

We've basically focused on flowers for the outside. My son planted his own toad lillies and monte negro lillies. Only one of them has bloomed so far. I told him if they don't bloom this year, they'll be back next year. (I hope, he will be so bummed if not)

Right now, we're doing house plants for the most part. I have a moses in the cradle I'm getting ready to transplant and bring in the house. I want to do this before I forget about it and it frosts, which is not too far away for us really.= ( I'm not so sure how I'll keep it alive inside as it needs lots of sun and light, and my house doesn't get that much sun.

My son would love to grow veggies. We really don't have the yard for it. I'm not sure where we would put them. What would be best do you think? He's only 6 and of course Mr. Independent. What would be easiest for him and not something I could kill?

I'll bet he'd like to do radishes or baby carrots in a container, and small lettuces that he can put on his sandwich.
Isn't it cute to think of a sweet little boy proudly eating the lettuce he grew?
Can you get some pots or even plastic tubs and poke or drill some drainage holes in the bottoms and use those for him to garden in?
As for the indoor plants, maybe a grow light? I have never had one and if they get hot I don't want to recommend one-not with a child.
Someone will see this and tell you (and me !) about grow lights. Everybody pitches in here !

Thank you Deborah. He would love to plant things like that. He loves his veggies. I'll have to see if he would like to do that. I'm sure he will. I'll let you know how it goes if he chooses to do so.

I don't want to get a grow light b/c I have heard they do get hot. I don't want to do that with a child. Not a 6 yr old anyways. Could be a disaster waiting to happen. Unless I hear something different.

Thanks again.
