I am an absolute novice gardener. I planted some Monarda Panorama this spring. And although the plants are flourishing, they have not produced one blossom. All of my other perennials in the flower bed have blossomed. Any ideas as to why they would not be blooming??

Did you start them from seed or buy plants? From seed, they usually don't bloom the first year. The same goes for young plants. Mature plants should bloom, however. What are the growing conditions?

Newly planted perennials can take up to three years to flower. There is a saying for perennials: The first year they sleep (establish roots), the second year they creep (spread and put on upright growth) and the third year they leap (do all of the above and bloom). If your plant was in a large container it may flower the second year. That's one of the hardest things when planting perennials - waiting for the blooms. This plant does perform best in full sun but you'll still get blooms if its in partial shade.

Many thanks for your responses! My flower bed gets about 7 hours of sun and is well drained soil. I planted the monarda from young plants - 4" pots. They must be in the "creep" phase as they have really spread and grown tall. Guess that I just have to be patient and look forward to next years blossoms!
