OK - I have to tell you up front that I DON'T DO RED FLOWERS!!! It goes back to my childhood, and something about coloring a train in a coloring book first green, then red on top - know what color that makes??? VOMIT!!! Ever since then, I just do NOT do red and green - good thing we don't celebrate Christmas, huh?
Anywhoooooooooooo... on with this topic! My good friend Myrna just LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES red flowers! Anything red, really... So here are some very healthy ones in her garden yesterday - she really has a great selection.
There are 9 pictures altogether, which will be in 3 posts.
The first one you see from her driveway is verbena
Those flowers are gorgeous. Wonder what that mystery one is. Is it Nicotina? Can you see the beauty in red or are you totally sickened by it?
Are you Jewish or just don't do Christmas? I have a friend that is Lutheran who doesn't do Christmas (her dad was a minister), and a friend at work who goes to a Presbyterian Church (dad is minister) who doesn't celebrate Christmas.

Lynne, I love that red/green plant you called alocasia, is that just one for outside or can you grow it indoors as well?
Your begonias did better then mine, it took forever for mine to grow and now they're finally blooming. I'm not that impressed though, their blooms don't last too long, not sure if I'll do begonias again. Especially after all the trouble I had with them.

i too don't like red, but i do have some red bee balm for a splash of color! everything else is pinks, purples, and white---until the heat did them in----now it's yellow's and brown's!
Speaking of red - I have a friend who doesn't like any color other than red. She wears red constantly (it looks good on her) and her kitchen is red. Red counter tops, red appliances (shows finger prints on them all the time), curtains with red in them, it's a little bit much.
My dad loved red so that's what my mom decorated with their entire married life. It can be a very daunting color when there is a lot of it. I prefer the cool colors myself in the house. With the exception of Yellow. I can do a fair amount of yellow.
The only reason I know the balsa is because I grew it last year thinking that I had gotten a double bloom impatience. Boy was I disappointed. But I got over it.

I do too, but i am more partial to the one above it--with the white speckles. I have the same question for that alocasia as well. OK, so it is white with red speckles---but I still love it and would like to grow it---

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
OOOOOOOOOOOPS - my bad! Deep down, I didn't think that plant was an alocasia, but that's the only thing that came to mind - but they ARE related to alocasia (elephant ears) I just did a google search, and it is really a CALADIUM. Sooooooooooo sorry!
