I went Lowe's hopping today and hit the jackpot. I found several perennials on clearance for only $2 or $3. I bought several Sherbet Cocktail Garden Phlox, Blue Fortune Agastache, Sonoran Sunset Agastache, Coronado Agastache, Frosty Morn Sedum and a Helenium whose name I can't remember. I'm gonna keep them in their pots for now until the weather gets cooler. I've decided to redo some of my beds in the back yard...I'm gonna remove all the plants and create burms using good compost and then replant them. It's a lot of work, but I think it will be worth it in the long run. They will be in better soil that retains moisture while having good drainage, too. We've been in a major drought and I'm trying to figure out ways to help my plants as much as possible if it ever happens again.

Nothing feels as good as cheap plants. Our garden centers closed early this year because of the cold, I missed the sales.

One thing I've learned about Lowe's is that they clear out plants every few weeks in summer, so if you don't find something now, keep checking. Each store can mark them whatever price they wish...I found the same plants at different stores for different prices, but they will usually give you the lower price if you mention it to them.
