I realize this is a personal choice, but I was curious how wide you knitters and crocheters make your scarves? I tend not to like a wide scarf since I am short and don't have a very long neck - I get all hot and bothered with too much around my neck.

So... what's your usual?

Personally I make mine 6 inches by 36 inches. I can wrap twice and still tuck in my coat. The teens seem to like them about 5ft long or more though lol

Ok - it's not so much the length I was wondering about, but the width - thanks for the responses so far.

I like the width to be a bit wider than the length of my neck, so just about 6 inches, it seems warmer that way

mine are about 6-9 inches wide. the one's i've made and the one's i've bought. the skinnier ones just don't "feel right" on me, if that makes sense.

It depends on the yarn with me. Most acrylics wools are 6" wide. {approximately}
Fun fur is more like 4", reeeealy thick chunky is up to 8".
The super long {train} scarf I made was about 5".
