Triss - that scarf came out great! Thanks for showing it - I had recently bought several skeins of that same yarn in a different colorway at a close-out store for 99 cents each - I don't know what I'm going to use it for, but I appreciate seeing how it knits up!
As for my latest project... I am making myself another sweater out of this Red Heart Kooky yarn - I wanted a black base with some color, and really like it so far. This is the back that I just started mid-day today.
I also have the blue sweater that I've been working on, that I posted in my thread earlier this summer. So far, I've made the back, one front side, and one sleeve. I started the new sweater for a change of pace, and also to see how that yarn knits up.
It does still give me an idea of how the colors look when used - interesting how the blues in yours sorta came out in a line. My colorway is called parfait - I bought 6 skeins, and have no idea what to make out of the bright colors - I don't need to make any more scarves right now...

Oh I love that!!!! Those little 'dabs' of color in the black is beautiful!! I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished sweater.
This whole topic is getting me all excited to start crocheting something!!!
So true, Triss! Since I've joined 2 knitting groups here in town this summer, I've gotten some great ideas of projects to make - including the 2 sweaters I am currently working on. Plus some of the women are so much more experienced than I am, that they are a great help when I have problems!
That is great Shirl and I saw that Tina was looking through patterns as well. The more people working, the more sharing and the more inspiration we all get. I know that I have done way more than I usually do since starting this thread.
thats soooooo true triss! i usaly dont do anything till winter, after seein this thred n others i got the urge i started a quilt n am learning to knit! n theres not even a hint of snow on the ground!
I started to crochet a scarf with this yarn, with the size hook reccomended on the label. And I didn't like the way it lay. So I ripped it out and started again yesterday with a larger hook. now I like it. I got it on clearance for $1.97(reg. 6 or 7.99 ??) only problem is I'm very allergic to wool. And this is 10% yup just 10% wool, and where the end of the scarf lay on my knees, mind you I had jeans on, made me itch like crazy. I was very careful not to touch myself while working with it, now I'l need something to put over my knees while i finish. I have 2 skeins in this brown and an off white skein of the same. 1 skein at about 6" wide is about 2 feet long.
Can't wait to see your picture, Wrennie - I really like the looks of that yarn! So sorry you are having problems with it - while wool also makes me itch when I wear it, I don't have any problems working with it. Do you take anything for it, such as Benadryl?
I've never seen that yarn before - where did you find it?
Here is my sweater back today - I'm up to 9 1/2 inches, and I started it yesterday mid-day. I love watching how the color spurts work out in the rows!
That was in JoAnns. I dont see it on the patons site so i guess they discontinued it. I can't take Benadryl. I seem to be allergic to it. Makes me drunk, air head-y. Can't concentrate, no retention. I took it once, my friend was over, she repeated the same sentence 5 times. I still had no idea what she said. I knew it was something about one of her sons, but what about him I couldnt say.
Interesting reaction to Benadryl. Amy took it when she was little and became so nasty to her little friend who was over for a playdate, that I had to call the mom to pick her up early. The second the kid was out of the house, Amy was fast asleep - never again will she take it orally, but she does use the gel for bites and rashes and it's fine.
Why is it that I never find any good yarns on sale at JoAnn's?!? A woman in one of my knitting groups is making a beautiful sweater out of some yarn she also got on clearance there, but everytime I go in there is NOTHING, NADA, ZIPPO marked down!!!
Lynne its not a difficult yarn to crochet. I'd think to knit it would be a bit more difficult just because the yarns thickness varies so much. I'm using a N (Ithink, it isn't marked) hook. I'd use at least a 15 needle to get it to lay nicely.
Thanks Wrennie - the yarn I am using now, is actually a "bulky" yarn, and calls for size 13 needles, but I am having no trouble using size 10s.
Triss - those scarves are VERY nice! I, too, really like the last one! How long did you make it?
I am on my way to driving Amy to the large mall where JoAnn's is, so since I need needles today anyway, guess I'll have to check out the yarns while I'm there, right?!? Maybe this time they'll have some on clearance - I do check the end caps thoroughly while I'm there, but all I've seen is the eyelash type that all the stores are trying to get rid of! Wish me luck!
Triss, I love that bottom scarf. What type of yarn is it? It looks crocheted? Triple crochet stitches possibly? I'm gonna have to make one of those. If there is a purple variegated like that, my little girls will both have one!
Extremely! I don't have to touch wool anymore! I had to pu a legl pad on my knees to keep it off me while working on it. Heres others i did (not very recently tho) that i didnt have in my PB before.
OK - let me preface this by saying that I am having a BAAAAAAD day all around!
Soooo... I had to drive Amy to the mall, and went into JoAnn's there.
The good... they had lots of Wrennie's pebble yarn and I was able to get a very pretty "blue marble" color for a scarf for a particular person here on the forums. YEA!
The BAD... they had the new Bernat Felting yarn on sale for $2.99 - a great price, but did not have the color I loved at A.C.Moore ($3.99) on the shelf in JoAnn's.
The UGLY!!! The young girl behind the service desk would not call anyone up front to see if they had any more - "everything we have is out" - sooooooo not true - there are boxes way up high on top of the selling shelves full of yarn!!!
The UGLIER - she would NOT give me a raincheck - they "NEVER do that!" Again... NOT true - I have ALWAYS gotten rainchecks in that store for an advertised item that was not in stock, but she called a manager and she yelled on the walkie-talkie - NO!!!
The UGLIEST! She would NOT take more than 1 coupon, even though I have many friends who have bought 6, 7, 8 skeins of yarn at one time using a 40% off coupon on each one - I only wanted to use 2!!!
Can you say this just clinched my bad day?!?
At least I do have some very nice yarn, thanks to Wrennie's post here.
My Joanns had the blue too. It was pretty. I didnt care for the red. Did you see that one? I just loved the brown and off white tho'. Just wish I'd read the label first. **itchitchitch** Now I'm jonesing for a new yarn. I have a bunch of the eyelash. I like to mix that with other yarns. I actually made a coupleof little purses with it. This one i used beads to weight down the flap
I saw that purse in your photos, Wrennie, and really liked it! Have you gifted it, or are you selling it, or using it?
They did have all the colors in my JoAnn's, but I liked the blue best, and then the brown you used. Since I'm not into red, I didn't like that one, nor the one that had a pinkish tinge to it - that was a very strange color!
Wrennie, that green scarf is so pretty. Do you use a pattern? I can't sew at all so I don't know why I'm asking about a pattern. Wonder if there's a Knitting for Dummies video. Or is it crochet?
