We have a hardware store called Kents. In the spring all their bagged rhizomes and bulbs are $2. I pick up a few things each year.

All i know is they ship lots of plants here to sell........

No such thing as planting them in a green hose anymore........Too costly for the fuel .......
years ago they did.

I haven't posted in here in a really long time. Some of my hostas died. It was mostly my fault. I put them next to the house where they were sheltered from rain and kept forgetting to go back there and water them. The other two that I have are doing well though. They are still very small, babies, but they bloomed! I didn't think they would being so yound and small but they both have purple flowers! I'll get a pick if it ever stops raining.

Hi

Long time no see........
The Hosta like it in part shade ......Sometime they fool you and come back.. Is some of them survived ......They will multiply rapidly..
Consider yourself luck with rain......Out here it is so dry , like powder and we are dying for a drop.

Just dont worry too much.

manderlyh,

That is a very cute collection of hosta.......Actually I dont like mine to bloom.
I prefer it just with the foilage.......Yours do look nice. Mine get tall and ugly.....

Know what else? They all have the same color of bloom and same flower..Which strikes me odd.......Anyone else notice that?

Keep growing and knowning.........this is so fun.

I'm not sure what you mean, dodge. Do you mean my hostas have the same color of bloom and same flower? Or do you mean all hostas that have been posted have the same color of bloom and same flower?

Love the hosta, Manderlyh! Any special treatment?

Mine are so sparce. What do you think the chances are of uprooting them, amending the soil (adding compost and lovely water retentive crystals), then replanting them and watering the heck out of them?

Mine flowers are mostly white with a tinge of purple at the edges, hardly noticable. And the stems are at least 2 1/2 feet tall. And lightly scented.

I haven't added fertilizer to my plants this summer except for once or twice. I have been making sure they have plenty of water..that's about it. I did put some cedar mulch down though. That may help out.

I don't add fertilizer to my plants or shrubs either, they grow fine.

Dodge, some of my hostas have different flowes than the others. I have some that have purple spike type flowers and some that have white flowers that grow on thicker spikes that look like white, tiny roses.

It is quite alright ......I am goofing off most of the time here.. Not serious..

Had a ball today, rode motorcycle for almost 90 miles then went to the chicken place and bought a bucket of chicken for supper.. Didnt have to cook today.

HD was happy to be out on the road.

Smile and the world smiles with you ..

I only did some mulch this year because I live in SW Idaho, which is very dry. If I water the plants when there is no mulch, the ground dries out so quickly that it is rare during a mild summer that I can get away with not watering every single day. I think I may have to re-do it next year because I didn't put a enough down to begin with. It wasn't too much money--I paid about $3 a bag of 2 cu ft. But it's really helped with getting the H2O to soak in.

This is the first year where I've put mulch down and I will be around for the next year. LOL. We bought our house about 1.5 years ago--so I will see how it looks in about seven months, won't we? (I do need to buy enough to cover all my beds though. I have a few beds that don't have any mulch, and they get dry really fast.

can hostas take full sun? ever since we took down a tree at the front of the house, they don't seem to be doing "as well". of course, we did this right before 9 days of straight 100 degree weather, so i don't know if it is the sun or the heat? why
