Thanks ! I'm scared but I'm going to do it !
If you have the June issue of Vogue magazine, that's the cut I'm getting. My bone structure and coloring are the same as the model's.
Just think, brushing and combing and wearing it up in a scrunchie because it bothers me-this is crazy ! I've had hair to the middle of my back since I was a little girl. Good riddance !

Well, there was something on another thread about too old for long hair. I did not cut my hair to suit my age (52 at the time). I cut it to ease my life a bit.

I'm doing it because I'm SICK of it ! The same old look, the just plain hard work of it, and yes, I think I'm too old now for hair this long.
I hope someone has the June issue of Vogue ! That's the only reason I bought a copy, the hairstyle caught my attention.

Papito, yes, you sweet thing, I'm planning to ask about that at the salon. We must have been posting at the same time.

Papito, OK, I just emailed them asking what I need to do to get the cut hair to the organization. Much better than asking at the salon !

Short & easy? You must be kidding. Short = keep going back to get it cut again and again. Blow dry it every morning? I can't remember the last time I dried my hair. Or the last time I cut it. Now thats easy. thumbup

I am very glad you are giving to locks of love!!! luv

Guess what....I'm chickening out. I'm bummed about it but I think I am. Plus, I had a terrible thought: The very reason I scrunchie is that I can't stand my hair in my face.
If it's short, I couldn't get it off of my face and I look terrible in a headband.
Wrennie, I'm having those same thoughts: I never blow dry, my hair air dries.
The very reason it's long is that it's what I call "wash and wear hair". Plus, I just have those features that seem to call for long hair.
Last night I held my hair in different ways to make it look short and lemme tell ya, it wasn't a good look for me.
I'm going to have to think about this.

I air dry. I cut my own. (and the rest of the family's). I also hate having my hair in ponytails of any kind. It causes headaches. No headbands either. The only way I could stand to fix my long hair besides hanging straight was to French braid it. That distributed the weight around more. For a awhile anyway. Then even that put a burden on my skull and headaches again.
You need to do what you are most comfortable with. I grew up with short. Went long in my 20's. Went short and curly for a few years. Went long again through my 40's. Went short in my 50's. Age and gray have added some body that I didn't have in my youth. That is cool.

I appreciate all of this input !
I had another freaked out moment-if I didn't mousse and blow and stuff, wouldn't my haircut look like a bowl on my head????

I had very long hair a few times and was so glad to cut it off, it's so easier to manage now.

How about cutting only half off to see if you like it, then if you do get the rest cut shorter at another time.

You all rock with this input !
Maybe because it's so hot I'm thinking of cutting this hair off. I have trims, and it's an oval shape down my back, but oh, the tangles. I'm prone to horrible tangles as big as walnuts.
I have a friend who keeps trying to help me with this hair thing-she has suggested every product on the planet, and I still am all thumbs-hence the wash and wear hair.
BTW, have a look at her website, it's Belly Dance by Soraya. The nicest person you can imagine, and NOT snotty ! (I don't know how to do links. Argh !)

The last big cut I had I had 37 inches taken off and since then I haven't had it longer then my shoulders. Just think it will always grow back if you don't like it short and if you donate to Locks of Love it will go to help a child who has no hair. At my local salon they will send it to Locks of Love for free.

Good Luck!

Friends, thank you for all your support and input, but....I've chickened out yet again. Sigh.....
But I'm going to keep that magazine cover in case (or when) I chicken in !

Oh man you should do it!!!! Hair is just hair....I color mine all different colors because well, it's just hair and if I don't like it I can recolor it or let it grow out.

Getting a haircut is always exciting to me because I NEVER go for a trim, if I get it cut I get it cut at least 3-4 inches......

I bet you'd love it Deborah! What do you have to lose? You'd feel lighter, and cooler, and probably more stylish too! You CAN do it!!!! kissie

I know, a lot of people have long hair as security...I've never had really short hair, nothing past my shoulders ever. But what's the worst that can happen???? If you don't like it then it grows back out. You'll be able to style it so much faster, and pull it up easier. Hair grows out fast. I bet if you took the leap you'd be thrilled with your new hairstyle. It always makes me feel so good and like a different person when I walk out of that salon.

And the locks of love thing is REALLY great!!! You'd help someone out that really needs the hair.

You can do it! You just have to keep telling yourself that and just go do it. It won't hurt! thumbup Maybe you could have highlights done, and your eyebrows waxed and make a day out of it! why

I had no problem cutting my hair, mind you DH freaked. I had hair almost at my waist 10 years ago and cut it in a pixie cut. How's that for change? DH had tears in his eyes.

Long hair gets caught in everything and complete strangers think it's o.k. to run their fingers through it. I couldn't stand it anymore and made an impulse stop at the salon and told her cut it as short as possible. I had to plead with the hairdresser, she was scared to do it. So I grabbed her scissors and cut the first chunk, she had to finish it then. lol

It depends on the cut. Not neccesarily.

Is your hair thick? thin. wavy, straight, curly??

It's wavy and thick, but it's curly when the weather's hot and humid.
It's not nearly as long as Betty's-it's to my bra in the back.
Tamara, what guts ! I wish I had them !
