This first group of three pictures are of the same pot. I drew the design on a sheet of paper then drew it onto the pot and lid as I turned it around. I used a black underglaze for the design, leaving the white part unpainted; then I fired it; then I glazed it and fired again. I've tried to show the design all around, with three separate photos:
These two don't have any design. What I like is the paint!!! The ginger jar has a green glaze which has crystals in it slopped on with a big brush. When it is fired the crystal 'pop' and makes all the weird stuff on it!! On the little one I again slopped glaze on with a medium brush. I used a variety of earth-tones, just over lapping it all over. When it was fired they all ran and made a marble like pattern!!!
I put on a 1/4" tape to form the design, then filled in with colored glazes then fired it, which fired off the tape. Then I rubbed in black stain to fill in to make it look like tiles.
You can see me like that huh?! If we had a wheel I would deffinitely be throwing pots!! I think that sounds like such fun!!!
No, I don't do that. The lady who has the class pours stuff for us into molds..she has a lot. Then we clean and design and/or paint, and leave it on a shelf. She fires everyones stuff during the week.
After I finish my nativity pieces, I'm going to ask her for a butter tub of slip and add some stuff onto a pot!!! I haven't done that yet. She has a pitcher (I did one and have flowers in it) and I want to take the handle OFF which is on it, smooth it, and make me a leaf handle to attach and maybe add a ropey vine with a couple of leaves trailing out from the handle onto the pot!! Cool??
Sure! I could cluster fines and leaves at the top of handle and trail them from either side, letting one or two small leaves come onto the top of handle, but so it won't interfer with ones grip on the handle!
Do you have any of your glass urns to show in Triss's topic..Latest Projects?? I would love to see some. I would also like to try that sometime. I've wanted to but just haven't. I know it's pretty!
This pot I designed, wanting it to look like something Egyptian. When it was finished everything was so bright and new looking and I didn't like it!! So I covered with a transparant black and fired it again. I thought I would be able to just paint something else over it. But it came out like this, and I decided that I liked it. That made the colors more subdued and made it look older....like it had been found in a 'dig' and cleaned up!!
This past Christmas I made some gifts for some of my family. I painted square tiles to use as trivets. I painted them to look like quilt blocks. Since they all know I quilt (have some of my quilts!) I thought this would be a nice 'keep sake of Mom'. I got drawer pulls, different for each persons tile, and glued them to the bottom corners, so it would sit 'up' off the table, and not be so scratchy.
This is the one I have left for me. I never put any 'feet' on mine yet! In fact it was stuck back in a closet!!!
Geez, you should see my DIL's!!!!! I keep hinting that I sure would love one, but, haven't gotten it yet!!! I'll ask her if she cares if I post a picture of one (or two) here. I'm seeing her and my son tonight She frames hers!!! They're are beautiful!!
Shirley, How beautiful! I love them all! How I miss pottery class...:~{ If you ever get a chance to use the wheel, you'll be hooked. It's such a great feeling. You'll really be able to show off your talent on the wheel. Your desigs are already very nice. Great job!
Shirley, you are really good. I love them all. I took ceramics when I was in high school and didn't do very well at it at all. Everything I made came out asymetrical no matter how hard I tried. I'm better at putting things together, not making them.
Here is a creamy yellow patter I painted and true free-hand leaves on it. (I saw my DIL in this weekend and forgot to ask if I could show her framed tiles!! Dang it!!)
Well, now after all your appreciation, I will show you something REALLY pretty!! Remember when I showed you my quilt block Tile, and I said I would get my DIL's permission to show her tiles on here??! Well here they are, and also notice the beautiful frames she found for them.
This Tile is framed by small tiles she made and painted, then framed it all!!
And this is her outdoor Welcome sign by her door, which she paint on a piece of slate!!
Aren't these great??!!! I'm very proud of her, as you can probably tell!! These are in her house (the Welcome outside). I don't know if she ever sells these or not! I keep telling her she needs to get her own little shop somewhere for her craft stuff...she makes necklaces too. She says when she can quit working, then maybe she will.
WOOWWWWWWWW Shirls Tell your DIL I like the one hanging in the Kitchen and her welcome sign are my fav,, She is very talented Like you! I love the oil jug you made ,,, when the Chrytals burst in the oven it made it so unique!!!!! Very Nice!!!!1
