So yesterday we packed Maddie up and went down to the mall for a shopping trip. I mean, what girl doesn't like shopping, right? Apparently Maddie doesn't like shopping. The whole thing was our fault really...and it was AWFUL. Things started out great. We went to Borders and got Maddie some books (she hadn't gotten any yet!) and then went to McDonald's to eat lunch. After we ate, we fed Maddie, changed her diaper, and went on our way. After leaving a store, Maddie threw up (which we were prepared for), so we went to a bench and used the bulb syringe to suction all the crap out of her nose and throat. We couldn't get it all out and she couldn't breath, so we took her out of her carrier (we kept her in it because it is hard to carry her with her monitor) and tried to pat her back to help her out...still couldn't breath. She started to turn blue (fingers, legs, arms, face) so I had Stephen call 911 while I started rescue breathing for her. Mall security came and kept people moving in the hall way and was in radio contact with the ambulance as it came so the paramedics knew where in the mall we were. After about 4 breaths, Maddie finally screamed and spit out the rest of the vomit that was stuck in her airway. About 5 minutes later, the paramedics arrived. Maddie and I took a trip in the ambulance back to the hospital that she had just broken out of. 6 1/2 hours later they let us come after and EKG, x-rays, and observation. They wanted to make sure that none of the vomit ended up in her lungs since I had to blow air into her. Today we had a follow-up appt. and all sounds fine in her chest and the doctor seemed satisfied. Tomorrow we go to see her pediatrician for her NICU follow-up and for her immunizations.
We did find out that she weighs 5lbs. 9.5 ozs now! She's a big kid!
Jenn, you did GREAT in a very scarey situation! New mom or not, you handled it very well. I'm so proud of you guys!
Good news that her little chest is clear. Let us know how she is after the appointments tomorrow!
Now that she is past the 5 lb. mark you'll have to call her "Sweetie" once in a while... her weight is equivalent to a nice bag of sugar!

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Wow!! Thank the good Lord Maddie is ok, and that you were there to help her. What a fright! Great news on her weight gain. She will be up and running around in no time flat, you wait and see!

Quick update....I think I forgot to post after our appt. Doctor Dan said everything seems fine. He's happy with her weight gain and was surprised at the amount of head control that she has. We don't have to go back to see him for an entire month!
This week we've been down at my parent's house and I haven't had much time to do anything on the internet. Nanny and Pop-pop are having a wonderful time spoiling Maddie. They got us a HUGE box of diapers (which will only last for 50 days at the rate we're going) and also got us a bottle warmer and these really neat nail clippers with a magnifying glass on them!! We're hoping to see my sister tonight and are going to the farmer's market in the morning tomorrow before we leave to go back home. Nobody at the market even knows that Maddie is here...they never even found out that Maddie was coming!!! How surprised do you think they are going to be!? LOL!!
