My DH wants to put bushes between our trees in the back of the yard. there will be 4 trees so there will be 3 bushes. He saw & fell in love with rose of Sharon. So 2 will be ROS (double purple) and I think the 3rd will be a multicolored butterfly bush.-(cause I have always wanted one.) Can anyone tell me--is the double ROS really sterile. I would like it to be true--as I have heard horror stories about the ROS re-seeding itself all over yards & flower beds etc. has anyone heard anything about that?? Anyone have any advice on any of this??

I have a bunch of ROS all over my grandmothers yard...
and OH BOY, do they reseed themselves!
I've been plucking and weeding sprouts all spring/summer from my veggie garden, and all the area around it... they have a deep root system, so if you don't get them quick, thye will be a bit of a challenge to get out..
I've resorted to, on the ones nearest my veggies, to just clipping the flowers off, so they can't dry up and go to seed!
I'm not sure about the doubles though, because I'm not sure what I have..

I have a double purple and a double pink and neither has ever reseeded, unlike my singles that reseed everywhere!

alan: thank you so much. The DH was so taken by the ones we saw--but I was worried about my garden. He will be so glad th hear that we can do this---

it will be esp. nice because my DD has a bunch of them along the house they just moved to. and for some reason the last people planted them right next to the foundation--as in there is no room between the bush & the concrete---they are double and should come out--so we are going to both ber happy--.

Yes, the singles re-seed. I have so many I just mow them along with the grass. I did let more grow in to create a better fence.
