My parents have a huge (over 3 feet across), old (over 30 years) Boston fern. We recently moved it to lay new carpet. As far as we know it has never been re-potted. My father has been working on it since, cleaning out all the dead material. It still seems very healthy, it continues to show new growth. It has 6 or 8 main "stalks" (because of the years of build up of dead undergrowth) that have all the green frond coming off the ends of them. My question is should we attempt to re-pot this? How do we go about doing it? They (and I) are worried about killing it. It is really a family heirloom as it was originally in my grangmothers house. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. BF

If its healthy and still showing growth leave it alone.
