some of my babies

O.k. lets see if I can post photos here. First is my cotton tail rabbit, the second I didn't really mean to post, the third is my squirrel Memosa, the fourth is one of my rat family coming to eat.

Cute pets. I used to have a rat when I was growing up. They can be fun too.

Well, I have had a some just about every kind of pet from feathers, fins, scales and fur. At the present I have squirrel, rabbit, dogs, cat, chinchilla, duck and goose. I love them all dearly but my squirrel and I are so very bonded. I have had (in the past 10 years) birds, fish, lizards, frogs, and turtles.
I guess I love just about anything that swims, flies, walks and crawls EXCEPT spiders. That is about the only creature I can't find a loving fondness for but then some people do. I will cuddle the snake anytime but I just cant get near a spider even in a container in a pet store.

My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.

I am an animal lover but not too sure about the rat. What do you feed your rat?

I feed them the same thing that I feed my outdoor squirrels. A mixture of whole kernal corn, black oil seeds, sunflower seeds, and peanuts. Occasionally I mix in some of my rabbits food.
The truth is rats are not as dirty as rumored. They actually like to be clean if they could but there is just not a whole lot that they can do about it in the wild. They are in fact very much like cats in that they love to groom themselves and their friends and that if allowed they love human attention. As pets rats are more like dogs in that they love to learn and preform for their people and get attention like a dog where as a squirrel is more independent and cat like in their relationship with a human.
Another fable is that rats and squirrels carry rabies. The truth is they do not. Yes they can become infected if bitten by a rabid animal such as a bat, raccoon, or fox which are carriers of rabies. A domesticated cat that is allowed to roam and that hasn't had its shots is much more likely to come in human contact and bite you than a squirrel or rat. I have been bitten many times by both while rescuing them and I haven't started foaming at the mouth yet. In fact rats generally make better and cleaner pets than Hamsters, gerbils, or guinea pigs. One reason that I researched this info was because when my sweet baby squirrel I took him to the vet to get him a shot for rabies and the Vet explained that the only way my baby would get rabies was if bitten by another rabid animal. Then after having been bitten several times by both rats and squirrels when I was rescueing them from some horrible condition I decided that I had better ask someone about how one could get rabies. Well, I am not foaming at the mouth yet (lol). But I still want a bat even if they are risky in that area.

Yep, some how I was able to get photos here but I haven't been able to get anymore up anywhere else. And I am not sure how I even got them up here why
Oneday I will have to tell you how I acquired my Rabbit. I raised her from a day old pinkie (baby) and my squirrel was somwhere between 5 to 7 days old when he came into my life and heart.

I just think of rats and mice as the creatures that have chewed up my Christmas decorations in the past. But my dog has chewed up my shoes too and I still love her. flwr

Cindy, I am sorry to tell you that I've had to report you to the appropriate officials and someone from the FBI smuggling department will be coming to visit you. Please do not have on your Jim Beam jammies. Might look bad.

Here are some more of my babies....
The first is a pic of my 5 dogs. The white one ia actually a 16 year old Bichon Frise and the one with her head behind some bags is a 18 year old Shih Tuz. Their coats don't look the best because they are so old and I find that if I keep them cut really short that they are more comfortable in their old age in the heat and humidity here. Both are for the most part deaf and blind and taking them to a groomer at their age is very stressful for them so i just keep them stripped and I do that myself with scissors, it takes hours but they hate clippers. Even though they can't really hear them anymore I get the feeling that their skin is more sensitive in their old age and the clippers must pull more and feel hotter to them hence the short hair dos. The brown and tan ones are Chihuahuas (the tan is the 2 pound teacup ) and the black dog is a Chihuahua/toy Manchester mix.

I don't think you can add pictures here. You'll need to start another post.
