Many conifers can be propagated from cuttings Moe, for example, Juniperus, Taxus, Thuja, and Cryptomerias. It is important to use young healthy specimens, over 6 years of age they are difficult to root. All conifers root faster if the stock
plants are young.
Conifer cuttings are usually taken when the current season's growth begins to turn from green to brown. Most are best from semi-ripe cuttings taken between late summer and early fall.
If possible, take the cuttings with a "heel" - a small section of wood from the main branch. Grasp the stem near its point of origin, and pull it sharply away, tearing off a small piece of the bark.
Trim this with a sharp knife. Strip off the lower leaves, and remove the tip of the cutting if this is very soft.
Insert the cuttings in the potting mix. Make sure the leaves are not touching. Keep them in a cold frame.
Once the cuttings have rooted well, replant them into 3-4 inch pots or directly into the garden.
Good luck
