We thought you'd all like to see how Maxi's container garden is coming along this year. He didn't plant much because of our pending move.

This is the view from our front door down the length of the porch.

Here is another shot on a sunnier day.

And now for some close-ups of the wee garden....

So that's the start of Maxi's Garden 2010. We'll do more photos as things progress.

not much at all, thats a lot of heavy pots to move. Though its definatly worth it if your planning on moving. A portable garden

They are not as heavy as they look, Shani. In the bottom of each pot are empty 2 liter bottles to take up space & provide drainage.

I see he planted an American flag. My kind of guy.

He's got quite a bit of produce going on there PLUS his plants look healthy. I've never thought of planting squash in a container. After the year of the squash bugs I'd like to try that. Does it just wind up the porch rails without breaking the vine?

I like your porch too. I'd like to have a porch like that.

I didn't know you're moving again.

Sheri ~ mostly the squash grows downward from the bucket and will spread on the porch floor and between the railings to trail downward toward the ground. And no, they don't usually break unless a neighborhood kid interferes with them.

We like the porch also except for the fact that the "roof" isn't a roof at all... it is the deck above! So of course rain, snow & ice land on our porch. In winter it is a skating rink. They should have roofed it first and then added the decking.

Yes, we are moving as soon as I can find us a good place. Maxi will be attending a private high school incoming freshman, Class of 2014. The school is nearly 20 miles from here & without transportation....
Also, in that same town, we attend church & see all of our doctors. So, it just makes sense to move.

It is just hard to think about moving to a big city. Mind you, it is Portland, Maine's biggest city but by other state's standards it isn't that big. 64,000 people. Still, it is much more congested than our little town.

I remember all that about the move now Merme. I just wasn't listening to my brain earlier.

School begins 8/31/10 for freshman orientation.

And if I haven't gotten moved yet, Maxi will have to stay with his dad during the school week until I get us settled. Not the best solution! Unless of course, I can come up with a car pooling deal!

Last night we ate summer squash out of Maxi's garden! It was YUMMY! YAY!!
