Here are pictures of My hoya as the spur is developing a bloom off her spur,,, I will try to document it's progress as it develops : so those of you that have a spur that hasn't seen it bloom yet will know what to look for. First the Spur.... total of three,, the one at the top has already begun to produce buds,, which develops off the top end of the spur Progressive development here each bud is filling with individual blooms and have extended outward to allow room for each pod to burst open,, Keep in mind it has happened to me that for some reason,, the buds have dropped off,, It hasn't happened often,, But it does happen, Hopefully I can continue to document this through to full bloom!

IF the cutting is from a mature plant and the cutting was made in the perfect spot,, My cutting bloomed in the first year,, The person I got the cutting from cut it with Spurs already on it as why Mine bloomed the first year

Diane - I am so sorry that your spurs fell off! Those flowers are too gorgeous for words though - I am still waiting patiently for my 3 plants from 3 different people to put out even 1 single spur... COME ON ALREADY flowers!!!

The Spur didn't fall off just the bloom buds on the spur,,,,,, the spur remains and will probably rebloom in a few month!

i have two that have spurs - and on one the blooms always bust before they open. the other one has managed to get a couple of the flowers to grow fully and bloom...
they're really tricky - when the blooms are forming you can't change anything - like location or lighting - and i think you're not supposed to water them either until the blooms are all there.
i have another one that i bought when it was in bloom last year - no sign of blooms this year though.
it's very frustrating!!

Angelblossom does your hoya have a fragrance? I have the same colored flowers on my hoya and it's now starting to bloom as well. I say mine doesn't have a smell others say they can smell mine. How about yours?

Interesting ....I can't smell anything. I've heard some have a very offensive smell so I don't mind if mine has none. My hoya seems to be in a forever bloom mode.

you are NOt a loser Dodge Some Hoya's take a lot of time to mature and develop the spurs that give off blooms,, the Hoya I have came off a plant that was well over 20 years old,, Luckily the person that cut off the starts knew where to cut it as it already had developed spurs when I got it, Just be patient My Friend,, you'll be rewarded!

I hope. I know it was not very big of a cutting I received. I might say 3 years ago. It loved it hanging on the porch this past summer.. It grew many stems . b

Dodge mine didn't bloom for at least 10 years if not more. It just grew into a huge plant and then all of a sudden out came the blooms. They also like to be root bound.

Ohhhhhhhh boy - if I have to wait 10 years for my 3 to bloom, I won't be able to walk into the rooms they are in - they grow like weeds, but still no blooms!

They also like to be root bound. Yep they do,, that's why they should be started in a very small pot,, and to repot them could be damaging,, They can't handle their roots to be disturbed at all,,,, everything must stay in tact just going up 1 inch in pot size just enough to place soil 1 inch in the bottom and 1 inch around the plant,, when you repot try to keep as much soil as possible if the soil it's currently in is fine!,, I've had mine in the same pot now for 4 years,, only repotted it once from the initial starting pot and I had to break the pot away from the roots because it was very very root bound,, Don't forget to fertilize ,,,, When you take it outside Dodge and Lynne and again 6 weeks after and again 6 weeks after that,, dilute the fertilizer if you can for the first application,, after that use as you normally would,
