I haven't had a chance to check the weather to see what is going on where y'all live, but here in Maine our area is getting slammed by two different storms.

A storm to the west of us had a tornado touch down and there's been lots of hail with the T-storm. And our little town has had effects from hurricane Bertha. They had to close our beach yesterday and today because the rip tide got too bad and 15 people needed saving.

Summer can sure bring on some weird weather all over the country so tonight I'm wondering what's going on in your neck of the woods?

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Stay safe there, Merme. Southern California is usually hot and dry this time of year. In August we almost always get some monsoonal moisture for a couple of weeks with our heat. And that adds humidity to the mix. But we have have the monsoon thing early this year and the humidity is killing me. If it is going to be humid, I would rather it just rained.
Of course, northern Cal. has been burning multiple places from mostly lightning strikes. We have been spared that around here.
So about 100* here with 86% humidity.

Yes, Diane, tornados are unusual up here just as you thought! We do not have the wide open flat vistas that allow the wind barrels to form. So when we do get a tornado, it usually comes from the west (I think). I know I was quite surprised the first time we had one after I moved up here from Cincinnati. There we had tornado sirens which always scared the wheaties out of me!

We also get earthquakes which most people also don't know happen up here. They are freaky, too.

Diane I don't know how you tolerate such hot and dry weather. But then again, I don't know how Tina stands the humidity.

I am a weather wimp!

We are in a heat wave right now too - the real temps. are in the mid 90's with a heat index of 100 degrees and very high humidity. This is going to continue until Tuesday or Wednesday when we are supposed to get some thunderstorms to break the cycle.

We are under both a heat advisorty and ozone advisory.
Thank goodness for working airconditioners!!!

There's fires burning to the north of me.The pollution in my area was pretty bad,but the wind cleared things up. should be in the upper 90's to 100 degrees, very low humidity.

Wildfires are so darn frightening; I hate when they get started here too. I know a few pilots who just do volunteer flying to watch for signs of trouble. Every minute of warning can be a help!

We still haven't gotten any rain either Diane. Though they just showed a severe thunderstorm warning for some counties near us, so I wonder if we'll get it too - hopefully after Brian has returned home from seeing Batman at the mall 1/2 hour away.

It was 104 on our deck this afternoon - Don had to wait for the sun to go down before going out there to BBQ dinner!

That very bad t-storm we had the other night freaked everyone out, myself included. There was so much electricity in the air that it was making the hair on our arms and back of our necks stand up. AND my computer speakers were crackling with it even though everything was shut off. When the lightening struck the building next door, we about jumped right out of our skin! It was WILD out there!

So yesterday when I was coming home from town, my friend and I saw a weird looking cloud. We knew it wasn't a real funnel cloud, but it reminded us both of one. Driving along on the interstate, we kept looking at that thing and saying "What is that? What is that cloud?"

The highway took us right under that unusual looking cloud and we found we were suddenly in the middle of a very intense but extemely isolated rain storm! I didn't look at the odometer and I can't even guess the short distance we drove, but we were outside of the storm, in the storm, and then back out of it nearly right away! It was so odd! Creepy!

Today the sky looks hazy but we aren't expecting any more storms until tomorrow. Our night time lows are in the bottom 60's and our days have been making it up to 80.

The weather is strange, we've had thunder and lightning storms ALL summer. Some hit us good others just float over. The purple clouds are what scare me.....they seem to produce hail.

We are very hot and dry this yr- rationing water again - can only water every 4 days for a limited amount of time-- didn't even try to plant flowers this yr - just have my roses and prerainials ... just costs to much to water if I have dozens of pots too... we have had almost 2 months of over 90* heat every day... set a record today... no rain all summer either... just sprinkles at most... hoping we get some soon but sure hasn't happened...

We are under a tornado warning. One was sighted in Accident MD which is not too far from us really, it's moving at 34mph. They just mentioned it on the weather channel. Cr@p. The red cell is coming this way. Mark called me to tell me it was on the radio about the tornado then I heard it on TV.....

Whew, the cell JUST skirted us and went more towards the next town. Not sure if the Tornado dissipated or if it held together or what. My friend next door said that she wouldn't mind seeing one. I said NOT ME!! I could live my whole life without seeing one and be just fine.

Not sure yet on damage to the towns that were impacted.

Well it seems that there were windows blown out and trees down on a few houses and cars, but no severe damage. Nobody was injured. But my town, Westernport, was in line for it. Interestingly enough when I was outside with dad we saw a cloud with a piece hanging down out of it and Dad said that could well have been the remnants of a tornado as it dissipated upwards. Sure was excitement for our town. Tornadoes used to be a rare 100 year thing, then they were becoming a 10 year thing, now it seems like we get warnings every year....scary. People say you can't get them in the mountains but that's just not true.

Here's a clip from my local paper The Cumberland Times-News.

The severe weather, according to the National Weather Service, began about 6:20 p.m. when NWS radar indicated a severe thunderstorm with strong rotation was located six miles northwest of Westernport, near Franklin, and was moving southeast at 35 mph.

The storm, according to the NWS, had a history of producing a tornado near Accident and funnel clouds near Bittinger. Locations that could have been impacted by the storm also included Lonaconing, Westernport, Piedmont, Fort Ashby, Short Gap and Romney.

Geez Loz. Glad that the damage was limited for them.

It gets worse every year. Even we get tornadoes now...who would have ever thought? Luckily we've only seen the tail end of a few of them. I remember a few years ago they got one in the neighbouring town that formed over the water(20 min drive from here). It sucked every window out of all the houses on the shore line.

Western Canada and Ontario see quite a few of them. It's been just the past while that Northern NB has been hit as well.

Gotta shut down...we are under a severe thunderstorm warning at the moment. It's getting nasty out again. The town 30 minutes East of here is getting hit hard.

back later when it's over.

So Loz, are you saying you do NOT want a free trip to OZ?!?!? tapfoot And here I was going to arrange one just for you with my Magic Weather Stick!

haha

Maxi's mountain hike got cancelled today because of very severe weather on the mountain.

Right now the sky is really dark and the wind is whipping up pretty well, so I know we are in for it soon.

I just watched the Wizard of Oz the other night when it was on TV. lol Sorry, but I'll pass on Oz, with it's flying monkey, witches, talking trees, etc. lol

You want to arrange me to have a trip to somewhere tropical with blue waters, then I'm so there! haha

That's a shame his hike is canceled, but better safe than sorry. Hopefully it won't be too bad of a storm.

Now that the storm has passed at 8 PM it is LIGHTER outside than it was at 3 PM!

What a crazy day with all the changes overhead as viewed from out my sliding glass doors.

Oh and loz, I'll work on a Special Potion to send you to that tropical place...

Well it rained, rained and rained some more. We are under another rain warning at the moment. DH had the day off but got called into work, the rain washed away a road. I guess the mess is awful. Lately rain has been falling by inches every day.

My veggie garden is starting to turn yellow at the base of all the plants from sitting in the water.
