Last night I was looking at a couple of Maxi's collections and thought again of the fascinating collections I've seen over the years in other people's homes and on TV.
Maxi's handsomest collections in my opinion are his Snowglobes and his Angels.
I collect tiny boxes and a subdivision of that collection is music boxes.
How about you? What do you like to collect? Any photos?

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.

But seriously... I used to collect all things hummingbirds, but I got tired of that and almost can't look at them anymore. Still love the real ones though!
One of my sisters collects miniature tea sets; the largest is 5 inches wide for the tray. Most of the trays are 3 inches or smaller. It has been fun over the years adding to her collection. Once I found her a blown glass set that was as dainty as could be and when I was in Italy I even found a silver one with spoons! Itty bitty little silver spoons! I couldn't afford it though; not if I wanted to also eat while I was there! So that set stayed in Italy and Nancy only got a detailed description!

I didn't know vintage Garfield things existed! How old is Garfield, anyway?

i have quite a bit of the early stuff...i really don't like what they have now because, when the recent movie came out, they made garfield look different. so, to me, it's not garfield. i like the 'classic' stuff and that's all from the 80's.
I have never liked it when they've changed the look of beloved characters over time.

my collections have been mostly shot glasses. i have them from all over the us and the world. the only continents i don't have a glass from are africa and antartica. about half of them are from my own travels and the rest are friends and family's travels. i've slowed down (i thought i did anyway) in recent years, but now that the girls have married and started their own travels, the collection has picked up again. i'd say i have over 250.
then there are the elephants. just a few. i like them, but don't want a collection like the shot glasses. for one, they aren't near as useful. and they take up a LOT more room. but i do have a few.
and now, lately, by accident, i have a few mice. bill actually started that. but i like the juxtaposition between the elephants and the mice.
Old books. I like to think of it as buying American culture, $1 at a time. (Although once I did pay $10 for one.)
Here are a couple of quotes:
The Cook’s Creed
The health of my family is in my care; therefore-- I will preserve as far as possible the nutritive elements in foods which are delivered to me My family’s enjoyment of food is my responsibility; therefore-- I will preserve and enhance the attractive qualities of the food with which I work. Stretching the food dollar is part of my responsibility; therefore-- I will take such care of food that none will spoil. I will use left-overs with thought and skill. A well-prepared dish and an appetizing meal are a creative achievement; therefore-- I shall derive happiness from work itself. Good food is of prime importance to my family; therefore-- I shall take pride in doing an outstanding job of cooking.
Meta Given (The Modern Family Cookbook, 1942)
Here's one of my favorites:
Few women appreciate the importance of mending, forgetting entirely the old proverb, “A stitch in time saves nine.” Every housewife should form the habit of doing the weekly mending each week instead of allowing it to accumulate until it becomes a burden. Carefully mended garments denote thrift, industry, and economy; therefore, every woman and every girl should take pride in knowing how to darn a pair of stockings, to patch a worn garment, and mend a tear.

Well Over the years I've collected coins, Elephants, and Fans. Now I just collect seeds. A friend offered me her dragon collection and I was soooooooo tempted. I'm still thinking about it. But, by the time I decide she will probably have already found them a home.
I suppose you could say that I am collecting wall art since my walls are still pretty bare and I'm trying to find things to put on them. Not really to collect but to decorate.
I collect Precious Moments (I have a curio cabinet full)--although I have not gotten a new one in years.
I also collect state quarters.--and for that I really need to go up to the bank and see if they can help me "catch up". --Then there is the "frog" items" I seem to have accumulated quite a lot of the frog stuff recently......

we carried them to school too,, and we'd trade colors,, and steelie's,, we would boil ours to make them crack inside and it made them prettier,, My brother got mad cuz I would boil his and if the steelie hit it too hard his would break,

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH Diane - FRIED marbles!!! We used to LOVE to make them! I tried making some when my kids were younger, but they must be making the marbles differently nowadays, because every single one of the split into pieces - they didn't crackle like in the "old days"!
The coolest thing that I have found so far is a calidascope that was made to hold cat eye marbles then you can turn them so cool. has three tiny mirrors in said. If I knew how to post on this sight I would show you pics. HUMMMMM never thought to take pics of them. I was marble champ all through elm. school. The house has been redone but the structure was not changed so It is beautiful still. I will have my daughter set me up for photo bucket then I can post some pics.
Be careful of those that say they are you friend. Friendship and Trust must be earned, Saying it is only part of the truth.

it would be good to have picture of these things you found just for your own record, ,,,,,,,,,,, and to show us I'm wondering IF you hold the calidascope up to the light and take a picture thru the eye viewer IF it would take a clear picture,, that would be awesome
Getting a Photobucket account is very easy,,,, just go to Photobucket.com register free and load pictures from your computer to there ( it prompts you how to do it),, and copy the image line and paste to a post here,

I used to collect elephants but I got sick of it. Every occasion I was given an elephant by everyone. I had them everywhere so I stopped. Now I get one from someone once in a while and it's a treat.
