Saw a picture today on preliminary tests by the ARMY to use Downy Woodpeckers as a weapon in the war on TERROR. Here is the picture.

What kind of ordinance does he carry, Thorny?

I'm not certain. I believe he IS the ordinance.

Actually, I'd hate to be his target. I don't know any people who can move as fast as a bird--it would be tough to dodge him!! Too bad we couldn't train a whole platoon of them. They would also be a pretty difficult target for the enemy to hit :)

A GOOD friend of mine on birdersworld.com forum, who uses the name Petite, took this picture. I added the target using Paint. Petite is one of the funniest, cleverest birders I know. I STRONGLY believe in mixing humorous elements to all stages of the learning process. Petite titled this picture, "This is what would happen if you shot a bird out of a cannon." Petite says she was amazed when she saw this picture when she was downloading her picture. Often our best, most amazing, or funniest pictures are "accidental" captures.
