In one of the window wells of my house there is a frog living---last year a mom frog had a bunch there & this is the one remaining frog. (my son-in-law rewscued several.) he/she seems to be doing ok I guess---I have put a clay flower pot drain tray down there and filled it up with water---but what I was wondering---does the frog need the water---or perhaps i should remove the frog from the winodw well??

Just wondering what is right for the little guy??/

Do you have plants in the window well? If you do there are bugs for the frog to eat. If you have moths, the frog will be fine.
Providing it with water is crucial. If the frog seems of a good weight I'd leave it there, it's safe from predators and from being stepped on.

there really are no plants to speak of in the window well, I put layerss of pebbles on the dirt. but he must be living on something he hs been there since last spring. I guess I can plant something for him. and yes I thought that he was safe there as well--thanks for reassuring me.

I know, I know this is a stupid idea but I put 2 bricks with 3 holes in them in my pond on a brick supported rock, the frogs love that structure of mine

hey!! I am a Grandma!!!

I went to check yeseterday to make sure my frog had water, and there are little froggies---about 3 or 4.!! last year I had my SIL pick them out--so I will do so again this year---I think I will make them a home in my garden (a half buried clay pot on a corner of my garden.--maybe a bit of water.) ----

and Deborah---there are 1 or 2 plants growing in the window well now--i will leave them, now that I know----

OK--Monday of this week I took pity on my frog and rescued her from my window well and put her under my deck. The very next morning she was on my "patio" area and hopped toward me when I took the dog out.-- I took out her small tray that I had had for her in the window well and filed it with water, and set it out among the flowers back by the patio. That night & the next morning she was still there. She even cocked her head at me when I talked to her.--I had just about thought I should put her back in her window well as she lived there for 2 years but now she is now-where to be seen--I hope all is well with her.

Hope froggette is okay. That is nice that you take care of her. I had 3 this summer but they've all hopped away now.

Well Cindy, if you go on the theory that she got there all by herself in the first place, then yes--but I have my doubts---

Loz: last year there were small frogs in the window well--my SIL removed them for me--perhpas he forgot one--and this was the one.
this year there were magically more baby frogs--(hence why I call the one grown frog "SHE")---I left them--but as they grew, they thought it fun to eat the screen to the basement widow--and crawel up between the eaten screen & the window--so I removed all the babies---and I have not seen a one of them since.

Hey guess what?? I was working out in the backyard just now--& as I was turning off the water (which is located by the infamous window well--I looked in (out of habit) and there looking back at me was my frog--well at very least A frog. So I put her tray of water back for her.

So to answer your question Cindy--if this is indeed the same frog then she can get back into the window well herself !! Who knew???

Dont frogs hibernate in the mud for the winter? I never asked one, but think.

We get many....Even in the flower beds.

I truely think it is the same one----and she/he/it burrows down into the pea gravel I have in the windiow well but (there is dirt under it). today she just had her head sticking out from the rocks---

a grasshopper jumped down there as I looked on--do frogs eat grashoppers???

it was cold & overcast a large part of the day--but it warmed up to about 64 and got suny this afternoon around 2.

The coldest it has gotten is 45 overnights--(the weather man says)

Ok so I have been waiting to see if/when my frog would come out of hibernation--- DH had said he saw her a week or so ago.--after the last set of heavy rains, I was letting dante outside, and as I looked over to my flower bed, in front of the window well, I saw a frog on its back.---Either DH or an animal 'took' it, because it was gone a day later----I am almost postive it was dead.

I am hoping it was not my 'frog'
