Yesterday Maxi's teacher gave him a bag of goodies concerning Maine. He explained to Maxi that The National History Day competition in Washington is "a full cultural event". Each state sends the students with these little tidbits to exchange with one another.
Here is a photo of the five types of things Maxi was given to share with 50 students around the country.

By number, the pins read:
1. State of Maine Dept of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Junior Game Warden
2. Maine Secretary of State
3. Maine Produces (agricultural)
4. Wild Blueberries
5. A magnet which reads "Maine, Home of the Wild Ones" w/ a picture of wild blueberries & the web address.
We hadn't known the kids would go around exchanging state pins and we think it is a fine idea. Each state's dept of cultural affairs provide the pins to the students.
How cool is that?
