...what is the minimum wage in your area? I just did a search and found out ours will be $8.50 in April...but was shocked that it states that it was $5.25 in the U.S., that can't be right is it?

It is $8 in California. But you also need to factor in the Canadian/US dollar exchange factor. Then the US takes a little more of theirs home because we don't have a national health plan to finance. Here is a good state by state breakdown. (I had to look it up)

WOW - I was surprised to find out that New York is $7.25 - especially considering how high the cost of living is here in the suburbs of NYC!!!

The cost of living in those states and things is less too. But it still is not enough.

I thought the minimum wage was set by the federal government and should be the same nationwide. I guess I was wrong. I found a site that says the federal government mandates a minimum of $7.25 but the each state can set a higher minimum if it wants.

I could be wrong, but I think there is a federal minimum that it must be--- that could be what we were all thinking about???

Not sure...but they have stated here that by September of 2011, our province must be at $10 an hour....I'm looking forward to it

Thats good. However it has strings attached. Everything else goes up in price too..
Ours is only $7.50 here
