Dear Dodge ~
Throughout history, all over the world, traveling after dark has often been quite dangerous. Ages ago people would pray "traveling mercies" on those they knew would have to be on the road after dark, asking God's protection.
Periodically, events would occur that would demand good people to be on the run from bad governments/bad guys and they would have to move under cover of darkness also. Their friends would wish them "Godspeed".
Over time, saying "Safe Away Home" came to mean more than just "Get Home Safely With God's Help" but also "Get Home Safely To God".
So, wherever we wander when we part from one another, I wish my friends "Safe Away Home."
