Hello all. I saw this page when I was researching potatoes. This website advises several ways of planting potatoes. One that I am interested in is the use of rubber tires. Yes, I plead guilty! I only want lots of potatoes and really do not care about having tires in my back yard! My husband protests much.

I understand how to plant them, but I think maybe I am overthinking the removal of the potatoes. Where the heck does the dirt go when you remove the first layer of potatoes? Does it fall to the ground? Is there a lot of dirt? I am trying to find an acceptable way to hide the tires with lattice and plants, but if dirt is falling everywhere, then I have to rethink my beds.

Does this make sense to anyone? Does anyone have a better idea? Anything will be appreciated. prayers

Thanks,

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I would so like to do this too .....it has all the aspects of a successful project for me ......recycle,reuse,grow in bulk, and a certain wow you used tires factor ..........BUT.....I am kinda maybe concerned with what residue may reside in.... on and around the tires ....asbestos in brake pads and some heavy metals used in the production of the pads .....anyone know of any way to properly clean the tires and with what???

I am going to plant my potatoes in a black trash can. I'll have to drill holes in the bottom but I can do this. I am determined to get a LOT of pototoes from a small space this year!! Wish me luck!
