The "spikes" that you can buy in spring are they considered ornamental grass and do they come back the next year again?

The spikes that they sell around here, in zone 6, are NOT winter hardy outside here. That said... I HAVE overwintered them indoors with success and them put them back out the following year. But since they are pretty cheap here, I usually don't bother, as they take up space that other plants could be using!

You're right they're pretty cheap here too. I'm actually thinking of starting some from seed next year. They mix nicely with other plants.

I have over wintered mine in the basement for several years now... **I also get them from the cemetaries in the fall time when all the families are throwing out thier flower arrangements/pots containers...*

I'm still hanging on to one of mine that I kept from last year. I'll see what it does.

I tried over-wintering mine in the garage last winter and they made it til about Jan--I think I did not water adequately though--I may try putting them in the basement the next time though--thanks for the insite--I enjoy using them as a central focal point in my large flower pot I put on thte front porch and would enjoy saving a bit of $$$.
