First I want to tell everyone how neat this site is. Never realized it was here and I cannot tell you how great the information is on the site.

I have some really good Dianthus(prennial) growing and was wondering when is the best time to harvest some of the seeds so I can start growing my own plants?(i.e. when the blooms die and then pick them, or wait till they(seed pods) turn brown) I live in southwestern Missouri and they are full of blooms. What is the best potting soil to get started with and what is the best climate to get them started growing? After what height do you transplant them to their final resting place and if I am not mistaken they will not bloom the first year; which is fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any other hints will be icing on the cake.
Thanks ever so much.

Bill

Thanks Bill from Missouri..

Dianthus To pick seeds.
Wait till the blooms turn brown, and the seed will probably be black. Not sure.

They will fall into your hand when you try to pick them.

I think you can start them fall and spring.. I think they bloom 2 times . spring and fall.

Come back really easy.. Mine are just in the regular full sun flower bed dirt. Nothing special..

Hav e fun.

Hey Dodge,

Thanks a bunch and I appreciate the help. What kind of hot rod. I have a 65 Cobra Kit Car I built with a 302 in it. 5 speed with aluminum heads. Turns out about 360 hp and best in 1/4 mile has been 12.9 sec with a 3:08 rear end. Wish I had a 3:70, but I go down the highway at 75 doing only 1800 rpm and get 22 mpg. Cannot complain.

Thanks for the flower tip.
