Dodge Mine bloom in the fall and again in the spring,, every spring I fertilize them,,
IF at any time a spur has broken off that is where it blooms from after a bloom it must remain on the stem or it won't bloom again , A Spur has to develop on it's own,, and never be removed.

some take years to bloom while others bloom easily can't explain it but that's how it work,

okay in this picture you can see three of them They are getting ready to develope blooms,,

this is the top one it is more advanced in the development

eventually it will get fuller in the little buds hanging from it and it will give you a bloom,, then it dries up but never clip if off,, as that same spur will bloom over and over again for the life of the plant,,
it's unusual for it to be blooming again, so soon after the last ones,, but I'm not complaining!

this is the same plant,,

My variegated one blooms as often too!

WOW Diane - those spurs are impressive!

I have some very healthy plants like Dodge - 3 plants from 3 different people on the forums here, that have never ever bloomed for me. They are all growing like weeds, but not a sign of a spur on any of them. I'm going to have to remember to fertilize them this time and keep my fingers crossed.

I was also looking at mine this morning and wanted to thank Diane, because I, too, now know what to look for!

Your welcome both of you,,

Fertilize in the spring but not when it's blooming,, Likes to be misted BUT again not while it's blooming.
Allow to dry out between watering in the winter, with bright light, likes to be root bound as that is when it will begin blooming,, In the summer water often. When and IF it's necessary to repot do NOT disturb the roots, they won't take kindly to it.

Diane - I have looked all over all 3 of my plants, and this is on the cuttings that you sent me. Do you think this is a spur, or is it just another stem or leave coming out? If so, there are 2 that I can see, but both pictures are of the same thing.

Hmmmmmmmmm can't tell could be?? Keep an Eye 'em,, IF it is and as it grows(matures) it will get " goosebumbs" on it ( for lack of a better word,, then for sure it is a spur,, I can't tell by the pic what is on the tip of it,,
