I didn't know where to appropriately post this,,

I notice mushrooms all the time around the yard especially after a lot of humidity,, * I wish it would just rain tho, *,, But this is the first time I've seen this kind I just had to get pictures,, I've tried looking them up and looked thru about 150 pictures ,, there were many more just got tired of looking

I kinda sorta like 'em

I thinks it's a common toad stool that has split. They probably all spore at the same time then split.

it probably started off round and split because of drought maybe.

You should submit that to a magazine.

Sheri, I think they look too perfectly formed to have just haphazardly split...but it could be. I just want them to have grown that way cause it is so unuaual and so pretty! LOL

I LOVE those pictures Diane - very well done!!!

I had to show them to Brian, because he knows waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much about all kinds of mushrooms! Not that he uses ones he should not...

But he concurs with Sheri, that they probably were too dry, or even too wet from the humidity even though there hasn't been much rain, and split when opening up, spreading the spores.

I still think they are VERY COOL no matter what caused it!

Thanks all I went to look again ~ some of them do look split while others have very smooth sealed edges, I doubt I'll ever see that again,, I'm glad I got a chance to get pictures,, neighbors must have thought I'd lost my mind taking those pictures,, they are only on the curb side in the front of the house, I practically had to lay on the sidewalk to get a close up of those
I have the normal brown ones here and there and "toadstool" ones But again I've never seen these like this,, they could have split that's a good theory *< Brian and Sheri*,
~~~
Jiffy My devils back bone has gotten huge this summer,, Both of them,, when I bring them in in the late fall they lose a lot of leaves,, but they sure did make a great come back.. I'll have to get pictures and post in cactus and succulents,, I was hoping it would bloom this summer,, I was told IF I were to put in ground it would,,
i let my get pitiful, but i think it will be happier now where i have it.
i have lots of mushrooms in my yard right now, but none as pretty as yours!
look at my little toad stool. It looks just like the ones that are always painted on ceramic things.
Hello folks, I am not sure anyone asked directly but the second mushroom, the one with the kitty is a Russula they are easy to identify by the fact that the stalk is fleshy and snaps cleanly like a piece of chalk, in some cases you can hear the "snap". Far and away the most common mushroom depicted in art objects is the Amanita muscaria (Fly Agaric) this is the mushroom of Alice in Wonderland. It is readily identified by the white stalk with red cap spotted by white "dots" the dots are the leftovers of the "case" that protects the immature mushroom.
The first mushroom (the white one), although I don't know the genus off hand, looks like it belongs to the group of mushrooms called "earth stars". As they mature they open in a regular and identifiable pattern to release the spores inside. At any rate that's what I have to say about that, thanks for the pictures.
just the other day I saw one of the white mushrooms that look like those in the first pictures. mine were split open, but not as uniform and flower like as yours.
