I'm trying to make my very first Sour Dough Starter. This is day two and I'm about to add the next bunch of water and flour.

What I'm wondering is if it is true that if I don't throughout half the starter beginning on day three that I'll end up with enough to fill two swimming pools. That seems a little much to believe from this little pile of dough that I have.

Was someone joshing me?

maybe not enough to fill two swimming pools, but it does grow quickly. i have a starter recipe that you make in a gallon glass jug. it starts off as a quarter cup. in less than 2 weeks it is nearly a gallon.

i'll try to remember to post the recipe. although i think i got it from here.

I love sourdough starter, and all that one can do with it.--I just do not like using it and only it all the time. If I had a large family it would be different.--Although, I have in the past, made it all up at once and then froze the treats for later.
